Any time I try to select just one field or object in a layout I have to move any object that surrounds the one object I am trying to move. Please tell me there is some easy solution to selecting THE object that I want.

 

In the attached screenshot there is a box outline that surrounds all of the fields. In order to select any one of the displayed fields I have to remove the outline. This seems crazy.

I moved your topic here because layout in FMP 12 has changed a lot from FMP 11 and earlier versions. One of the changes involved was the selecting layout item or Items. It is now reversed as what it was in the earlier versions in that holding the Command Key and the mouse selected all of the items it touched, now you need to hold the Command Key down to select only the items touched.
