Can I make a scrollbar slider on a text field show there is more text available?

Hello!

I've put a vertical scrollbar on a text field that sometimes has lots of text (extending beyond the visible range of the text field), sometimes very little.

Currently the user can't tell by the appearance of the slider whether there's more text available or if they are seeing all there is. The slider fills the full height of the scrollbar regardless of how much text there is. The danger is that the user will miss the 'hidden' notes.

The slider does change appearance (as in, gets smaller if there is lots of text available) if the user clicks into the field, but it would be much better if it could show this all the time.

Is there a solution?

Thank you!

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

There is no direct solution for your problem but there is a way by which you can solve this problem. Just create a relationship which will be a self relationship with the serial# of current table and show the single text field just we show related fields in portal and the portal property will be single row, single field and enable vertical scroll bar of the field. You can take a look on the filemaker file in below link.

Hi Manjit,

Thank you for your response!

I looked at the file you posted but unfortunately the slider still fills the full height of the scroll bar despite there being more text.

When I click inside the field a second scroll bar appears behind and slightly to the left of the first. That scrollbar behaves as a normal scrollbar would, but the first scrollbar in front still shows the slider at full height.

Any thoughts?

Thanks again.

Andrew
