Hi,

I'm having a problem with sending e-mail using a script and I wonder if someone can point me in the right direction.

It's very simple, I have a field with the e-mail address in it and have told the script to use this as 'send to' but it doesn't get carried across to my default e-mail package

(Windows Live but I've tried others and the same thing happens). It's just blank. Other fields are OK like Subject and Message content but not send to.

The other problem is that it won't attach a file either. In the script, I make a PDF of the screen, save it and attach it to the e-mail. It saves the PDF but won't attach. I've check directory paths, moved directory paths but to no avail. I have to manually attach it (it's correctly in it's location FM saved it to).

I'd go down the SMTP route but this doesn't seem to work at all :(

I don't want to go down the 3rd party plug-in route if I can help it as what I'm asking FM to do is very basic and I don't think I need it.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have not done this in a while. I think you need a POP/SMTP account. It won't work with web mail services. I did a quick search for windows live mail and it appears to be hot mail revisited.

Thanks for the reply. I've got a POP/SMTP account that's working fine. I had this script working on a old Vista computer a while back, did just what I wanted. Fed all POP/SMTP settings in and nothing (email(s) could not be sent successfully).

Thanks. This just doesn't work. I've downloaded Demo versions of 3rd party plugins and can't get them to do it either. Nothing wrong with my current settings - all is well elsewhere.

It's a 2 fold problem, Filemaker will not attach a PDF file to a newly created e-mail (regardless of the e-mail client). Either by asking it to create the PDF then 'add as attachment' or using send mail and just adding it there. I've used multiple paths, I've tried variables it just won't work. This on top of the SMTP problem.

I've seen this problem elsewhere on the net but nobody has an answer. Filemaker is pretty awful.

Have you read the help on Send Mail script step?

Have you used Script Debugger to see where the script fails provided it meets the requirements of the help.
