Steven H. Blackwell Posted April 3, 2002 Posted April 3, 2002 Your system probably is not configured correctly, and your workstation copies of FMP may need more memory. Set them to approx 10MB and see if that helps. Be sure to use the latest v-revs as well. Old Advance Man
falkaholic Posted April 3, 2002 Posted April 3, 2002 Already did that. they got 25MB each. still no change. As well i made sure they wer 5.5v2 when i started out. hmmm...
falkaholic Posted April 4, 2002 Posted April 4, 2002 I have i rather large system (13 or so DBs) that has a main menu. Then idea is the the menu is a database with 1 record for each database in the system. Once you open it, it in turn opens all the databases hidden and shows the list of databases. (Idea borrowed for the FileMaker Solution Framework) The problem is, I have 5 or so Macs opening this database of a FM server. At first, there was this one Rev A iMac that would freeze opening the menu, but when I forced quit FM and opened it again, it would work fine. Today, another computer (a 9600/200 as i recall) came down with the same problem. So my question is, is there any known causes of freezes the I can avoid?
kenneth2k1 Posted April 8, 2002 Posted April 8, 2002 Hello: Are you getting an error message, or a Type 1 or Type 11 error? If so, you may have memory problems or the mobo memory may need to be flashed (this is unlikely). If it is a memory problem, MacOS will tell you it is a memory problem (they are pretty good with memory spaces). I have found that a fresh install of FM helps to eliminate freezes sometimes. Ensure that there are no unnecessary extensions open when you install. Ensure that Virtual Memory is ON. My Mac knowledge is kinda limited, sorry. A few questions: Does it freeze any other programs that are open? Do you notice it when any other programs are open? It is a possibility that some extensions might be in conflict. You can use Conflict Catcher to resolve this. What version of MacOS is it?? I have found that System 9.1 and System 10 are the best MacOSes made (except 8.7, but that is way old) by Apple. However, Versions 9.2 and 9.2.2 have given me many, many problems and are about as useless as Win95. Post some specs, and we may be able to help troubleshoot. Ken
