December 4, 201312 yr Am I correct in assuming this should go a long way towards replacing how things are done now, ie. via anchoring items in the layout to margins so they are stretched in landscape. Are the transitions smooth via the new way? I was wondering why FM haven't included dual portrait and landscape layouts in their starter solutions.
December 4, 201312 yr I'm not 100% sure as I have not gone through each starter solution, but as far as I can tell the starter solutions that were included in FM13 are the same ones that were included in FM12. If I remember correctly, the OnLayoutSizeChange script step was demo'd in the dev preview session they had going around a month ago.

Oh, I see, does that mean if I were part of technet I would be eligible for such a release? James, I am 100% sure that they have 4 news layouts for contacts, content management, invoices and assets. The rest are the same as FM12 and untweaked, which is something of a disappointment. It's like apple releasing ios with conflicting interface designs and, in a way too, philosophies. In these new layouts however they don't use this transition.
December 4, 201312 yr fmow, That's correct: use the new OnLayoutSizeChange script trigger, in conjunction with the (also new) Get(WindowOrientation) function, to trigger a layout change when the user rotates between portrait and landscape orientation. BTW, you can also use OnLayoutSizeChange to switch layouts (or do other things) on desktop, when the user resizes a window beyond the limits that can be gracefully handled by merely anchoring layout objects, thus potentially increasing the overall utility of the new trigger. Re preview software releases, a TechNet membership does not, itself, come with access to preview releases. After joining TechNet (free) you also have to purchase a FileMaker Developer's Subscription in order to get access to the preview software, in addition to a few other perks. HTH, Mark
December 5, 201312 yr Author Done both, thanks! But I 'm still wondering why the starter solutions do not follow this design paradigm, at least the new ones.
