hollyheadhunter Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 We store photos using SuperContainer and display the photos using a Container Field with a calculation that references the file. Since recently upgrading to FileMaker 13 (unsure if there is a connection), new photos uploaded display with poor quality -- grainy and with soft vertical stripes. The file itself is not affected -- when redownloaded it has the original good photo quality. And all all images that were previously uploaded display in high quality. Why might photos newly uploaded display with poor quality?
dbail Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 This seems to be a common problem and is worse in thumbnails displayed by supercontainer. It does not appear to be much of a problem unless the original is reduced by it being displayed as a smaller size.
dbail Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Any body hear if this is a display problem or a thumbnail generation problem?
Joe Pampalon Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Even though this thread is old, I wanted to post an update. This is an issue with thumbnail generation. The library we are using is not equipped for very high resolution photos. Some customers may experience this issue with medium-to-high resolution photos as well. The majority of SuperContainer v2 users should not see this issue. You can set a resolution parameter of 140 or more in your SuperContainer URL that should force SuperContainer server to generate a thumbnail which does not contain the vertical lines. Please see our documentation on setting a custom resolution: http://docs.360works.com/index.php/SuperContainer#Specifying_a_custom_resolution We are planning on releasing an update to SuperContainer to fix this issue, but we have delayed it in order to incorporate several other internal changes to thumbnail generation such as avoiding the known CoreImage memory leak without decreasing thumbnail generation speed. We should be releasing the update soon, but I do not have an exact ETA. Please visit http://www.360works.comfor the latest news regarding our products.
