iPhone app for auto mileage (mpg)?

Featured Replies

Hi:

I am not a newbie but a relative novice using FMPro 12 for Mac. I'd really like to have an app that runs on my iPhone that tracks date, mileage, calculates mileage delta from the last fill up, then uses the # of gallons put in to calculate MPG, and ideally then easily communicates this data to the master FMPro 12 (or 13 if need be) app on my iMac.

Can anyone steer me as to the easiest way to get this done? I'd be willing to purchase an app if it is available.

Thank you!

You're not happy with the mileage apps in the App Store?  There must be a zillion of them.  Some of them can upload data to your mac; and are free or cost next to nothing.

That being said, syncing Filemaker Go with a Filemaker database on your desktop would be pretty quick over WiFi on your intranet, but you'd have to have FM Pro running on your Mac.  If you're wanting to sync over the internet then you'll have some firewall issues to contend with. I would make two databases - one that lives on your phone for collecting data on the road, and a second that lives on your Mac, to which you sync when you are at home.

The second approach is to upload the entire database from your phone to your computer through iTunes, and then sync it with your main database or just use directly with some Desktop friendly layouts.

Agree with Matt. Use an existing app.

I don't think you can run FM Go in the background, killing much of a mileage utility built in FM.
