LaRetta Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014
If I have a field which contains:

MP1-01, TV-01, TV-02, TV-03, TV-04

it sometimes, because it breaks at the end of the page, looks as this:

MP1-01, TV-01, TV-02, TV-03, TV-

04

It seems there was a shift/key combination on Windows which inserted a space which stopped the break; I forget what it is called now so I can't even look it up. Is there a way of doing the same thing with the dash? Or maybe it could be turned into a word character which isn't used much but this is for display so ...

Whatever that key-combination, use Substitute ( field ; "-" ; " - " ) ... where the spaces are actually that key combination. Ah well, it's late. Oh, actually it's 4:30 am, time to stop. Time flies when having fun! I searched for the name of this invisible connector going on two hours. I throw myself on the mercy of the forum. I want to say 'hard breaks' but that makes no sense at all.

Matthew F Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 In MS Word there is something called a non-breaking hyphen. (Insert> Symbol > Advanced Symbol... Special Characters). If you copy and paste it into FMPro it also will not cause a line break. Code( ) returns 8209 for this character.
P.S. You write very funny when you are tired.
LaRetta Posted April 1, 2014 Author Posted April 1, 2014 Oh wow. I had asked that these duplicates be deleted. It seems they only deleted the post I made after this one asking that it be deleted. After the forum messed up and posted this three times, it would not let me delete them. I only could respond again. Good grief. Well, sorry Matthew. I didn't leave this garbage here like this. I'll see if your response can be moved to the real thread. :-)
LaRetta Posted April 1, 2014 Author Posted April 1, 2014 This the one we were keeping. http://fmforums.com/forum/topic/91506-stop-word-break-on-hyphen/ Thank you, Matthew!
