mikemccloskey Posted May 6, 2002 Posted May 6, 2002 I have posted one of my databases on the web using instant web publishing. I am using a Mac. When I am away from my office and try to connect, all is well, it works fine. But when anyone else attempts to connect, they get to the filemaker web portal splash screen, click the appropriate file, are prompted for user and password, then there is an error, it won't connect. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Vaughan Posted May 6, 2002 Posted May 6, 2002 Are they using the same browser as you? It could be a web browser compatibility issue.
Bob White Posted May 6, 2002 Posted May 6, 2002 Have you double-checked your Web Companion security settings? (Edit menu > Preferences > Application > Plug-ins tab > click on Configure) Not knowing how you've set up your access, the possiblities are that you may need to either turn off or turn on FMP Access Privilieges or that you have set an IP Address access restriction. If nothing else, checking this and finding no problem will eliminate one possible cause in your troubleshooting the problem.
mikemccloskey Posted May 7, 2002 Author Posted May 7, 2002 I believe access privelege is on, if I understand what you mean (access via password) and I have not restricted any ip access. Others have tried using both IE5 and Netscape. Any ideas? One person on another mac was able to gain access this morning. Don't know why.
The Bridge Posted May 7, 2002 Posted May 7, 2002 What is the error your users get? Are you hosting the database via FileMaker Pro Unlimited or simply FileMaker Pro? Unless you're hosting via Unlimited, you are limited to 10 unique IP addresses within a given 24-hour period.
mikemccloskey Posted May 8, 2002 Author Posted May 8, 2002 I am using unlimited but am still being knocked off from time to time. I think I must look at it more closely and do some experimentation to see if there is a user limit.
