Newbies rd2577 Posted May 19, 2002 Newbies Posted May 19, 2002 Can anyone give me information on capturing electronic signatures with a signature pad in Filemaker 5.5? Thank you
jfmcel Posted May 21, 2002 Posted May 21, 2002 "Electronic signatures" do not have to be signatures. You can authentic users using a user id and a password set-up. Where you need to confirm a user, have them re-enter the password. This approach should be mcuh cheaper and easier than a signature pad. [A law signed in June of 2000 gave a properly implemented electronic signature the same legal standing as the old fashioned paper signature]
Newbies rd2577 Posted May 21, 2002 Author Newbies Posted May 21, 2002 Thank you for your post - however this application does require a signature to be placed on a form that is printable. There are 2 steps in electronic signatures: 1. capturing the signature as an image ( ex: .bmp file) and 2. capturing the signature .sig file which can be saved as a text string (usually 1500-2000 characters) this text string allows the signature to be redisplayed when required. ( It basically rebuids the signature digitally.) The applications I have seen also have the capability to detect if the form has changed since the last signature, and if it has, the signature is voided, and must be re-signed. Any other info on this would be appreciated. Thank You
meancode Posted May 25, 2002 Posted May 25, 2002 i am guessing you are on a PC, so no AppleScript. well have you looked at the troi file plug in? it may be able to grab that image file (.bmp or something) and plop it into a container field. i think troi also has a plugin for images spacificly. but i think troi file would do what you need.
