Related records inconsistency

Featured Replies

Hi all

I've attached an image to illustrate my issue.

I have a sorted relationship between Email Script_Originals and Email_Script_prepopulate_Originals via an email address and 'unassigned' field. This works fine. However, the additional relationship (Email_Script_prepopulate_Cases) that comes off the Email_Script_prepopulate_Originals TO is not working correctly.

As the image shows, it pulls in an unrelated record. The Case_ID and Case_IDF fields should be exactly the same. The record it pulls in IS a related one, but only according to the first relationship IF it didn't have a sort specified.

Now I've just managed to resolve this by applying the same Sort to the Email_Script_prepopulate_Cases relationship that is in the other one. (This just sorts by Case_ID/Case_IDF descending).

I don't see why the sort would need to be applied to both relationships.

TIA

I don't think it does that. It may show a related record other that the one you expect - but not an unrelated record.

Contrary to what we tend to think, Filemaker does not sort the relationship. It sorts the related records. Which means it has to get them first, before it can sort them. And it also means that the sort order defined in the intermediate relationships is not considered at all.
