Can someone explain to me why FM does not allow you to import/export global field contents?

Never happened to me ( at least with configuration I'm using FM 5.5 Dev + OS X).

Maybe you are missing something obvious like importing text into number field.

Or maybe you are trying to export global repeating fields using some format that don't suppport repeatitions (SYLK, DBF)

If you are importing from an empty file, or no records are selected in the source file, then the globals don't come through.

Watch out with clones too, you lose globals that way as well

Because the help file says:

You can import data from any field type into any compatible field except calculation, summary, and global fields. You can import container fields if you're importing from another FileMaker Pro file

I was, however, able to import the global fields. So I guess what I know aint so (despite what the FM Help says).
