Has anybody actually succeeded in using the "Rename files and update internal links" in the Developer Tool v. 5.5? I tried many times, with different files, names etc., nothing works. The bound solution still asks for the original files. Neither references to external scripts nor calculation fields nor relationships get updated to reflect the new names. Any help will be appreciated.

Done this countless times, with no problems. Are you making sure to include EVERY file in your solution when you do the rename? You must include them ALL, even if some of them are not being renamed. Also you must start with a working solution. This will not "fix" problems, only do the renaming/relinking work for you.

Yes, I always include ALL files, and my solution is working flawlessly. I suspect the problem may be in its size: it consists of 11 interrelated files, each with hundreds of scripts and between 50-200 fields each. I noticed that on this forum somebody complained of the DevTool not being consistent in its renaiming behavior (some scripts and fields get updated while others don't), perhaps my problem is an extension of this behavior.

Size makes no difference. I routinely rename a suite that currently consists of 43 files and a gazillion fields, scripts, relations, etc. I have had no problem with either version 5 or 5.5. 5.5 is much faster. Sorry I have no answer, but there must be something else going on.

I concur with Moon. My solutions range from 18 - 50+ files and I have renamed them many times. Some of my files have 200+ fields, hundreds of scripts, dozens of layouts and on has over 100 relationships. I have also renamed files that were 400+MB in size.

I have a solution with over 400 files and have never had a problem with the renaming, etc.

Well, here's my dumb question of the day, but keep in mind that I ask based on personal experience:

Are you certain you're opening the bound solution? I only ask because once or twice I've clicked on Finish without closely examining the path Developer Tool will save the solution to.

It seems that the inability to rename files by the DeveloperTool is restricted to the Mac OSX version. The same set of files renames without a problem on a Windows machine. I am not surprised as the OSX version of FM Pro is the buggiest piece of software FileMaker Inc. has ever released.
