Ha!  I worked it out in the shower after I posted those questions that making the field a button meant I never entered the field.  So I changed it from a button to a script trigger and Get(ActiveFieldContents) works perfectly
But that 's a kludge because you have to make the field look/behave like a button.  Your idea is clearly superior.
GetField(Get(ScriptParameter) & "::fkProject") works perfectly and saves me about 100 separate scripts across the different targets!!!
    Dear Comment,
I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your patience and guidance.  Over the last year or so, I have built, starting as an almost complete beginner, a major fully functional app and every single breakthrough I made was as a result of your help and guidance.  Now I'm ready to take it to the professionals to do the user management/security.
    Thank you

Thank you.  Everything is fine now since I replaced the Party table, thank you

Thank you. once again, dear Guru!
I did actually follow your procedure.  I just didn't think of including both the table name and the field name (without brackets) as the parameter.
Works perfectly.  Sorry to be so slow ......  I knew it was easy once you know!
    I meant "without quotation marks"

Thanks so much once again for your help and guidance.  What you describe is what I expected but, for some strange reason, not what I got.  I must done have something wrong somewhere.  But I haven't investigated that as there was a much simpler solution.
I really only like the Sophisticated Theme. But I need a visual indicator of whose d/b I am working on.  So I copied the file and kept the Theme.  Then I simply changed the background of the layout body and saved is as a new theme with a few more small tweaks.  Everything works perfectly :-)
    Thanks again.
  5. mdfOffman's post in Using Variable for Table Name in Set Field was marked as the answer
    Dear "Comment"
I've been meaning to thank you for some time but been too busy getting it done!  Your proposal about using a parameter for the Select script works a treat.  To be transparent, I was nervous about it because I had not used parameters before and I wasn't sure how to carry the parameter through to the next script that inputs the selected record.  When I learned I can make a global variable as the first step in the script, it all came together.  Obvious when you know, intimidating when you don't yet know!!
It's just amazing what an amateur like me can do with Filemaker and much of it depends on the free help and training from you guys and girls.  Thank you so much.

I'm delighted to advise that I solved the problem.  When I uninstalled, it deleted the supporting table but not the supporting scripts.  So, when I re-installed, the scripts were still looking for a table where the name had got corrupted.  I un-installed again and manually deleted the table and all scripts and re-installed and it works again perfectly!!
  7. mdfOffman's post in Double sided join was marked as the answer
Thank you so much for the time to help me.  After much internal debate and testing, I decided to surrender and create a "Mirror DocLinks" script.  This, of course doubles the size f the join table but I found it the simplest and most reliable way.  It works just fine though you have to be careful with the delete script which needs to delete both records but not any other records to which field 2 is connected.
    Thanks again
