  1. I am trying to get a solution for this as well. Is there a firewire cable with an adaptor that splits all of the stuff fire wire has in it? One of these cables, I've been told, can be used to control a non-digital deck, like beta decks. If so, does anybody know what it's called and where it can be bought?
  2. I am trying to write a script to do a keyword search in constantly changing layouts. Is there a way to tell file maker automatically "Yes," accept the current entry (ie - non number in a number field)?
  3. I have a microsoft project like calendar / gant database. I am currently trying to make an event in the calendar have the ability to be dependant on another event being complete before it can begin, like the predecessor function in MS Project. Once I do this, then I can sort the events by date, then by predecessor on the gant chart. I have tried creating two fields, a predecessor field, which is a pull down menu off all of the events associated with the current project. The other field is a calc number field - predecessor number - relation to self file via current project:: Predecessor number +1 This is the closest I've gotten, but filemaker won't let me do it because it can create a circular calculation. So, I would like to know, how do I do this without a circular calculation? Thanks.
  4. I have many files that need dates entered into its records. For one file, I built a file that's a small calendar that pops up when a date is clicked on, then the user picks a date and that date is issued to the date field of the original file. So far I've figured out how to make this work for various fields in one file, but how do I make it work for various fields in various files with only on calendar file? Thanks.
  5. I have a portal that allows creation of new records. Whenever I add a new record, that information is displayed twice, once on it's line, and also in the new blank line where the new record is suppossed to be. So a blank line for a new record is not presented, but when I click on the duplicate 2nd line (where the blank line is suppossed to be) and change something, it will also change the first line. Does anybody know what happened and how to fix it? Thanks
  6. I have a project database with a layout for budgeting. The budget right now is broken into four general sections. Each of these sections has its own portal to an individual database that stores line items. I don't know if I need to have four seperate databases, though. Is there a way that I can make a relationship dependant on two sets of fields (project number and budget group) and keep all items in one database? Thanks for your help.
  7. I have a portal from a media library database. The media library has a field that notes which project each tape in the library belings to. There is also a project database, in which there is a portal that lists all of the tapes from the media library that are for each particular project and is related by the library's project number field and the project detail's current project number. This works fine for tapes that have only one project number in the project field, but for tapes with, for example, "1001, 1002" in the project field, the tape will not be displayed in those project's portals. Is there a way to get them to be listed, possibly by looking for a partial string match? Thank you for any help.
  8. Is there a fast script that will create a new record and then omit all records but the new record, without creating a serial number for each record and doing a search for the new one? I think there might be a faster way to accomplish this, but I can't think of it.
  9. I am still building a database, and this started happening about a week ago. I have two layourts for a report, one is a form view, and the other is a table view. There is a botton on both that takes the user from one layout to the other. Now sometimes when I press the button to goto the table view layout, it goes to that layout BUT the header part is not there. When I switch to the layout mode and select layout set up, I only have to close the setup window and go back to the browse mode, and the header is there. I haven't changed anything that I know about to do this, and I don't change anything in the layout setup when I am there, but it works when I go back to the browse mode. This is very frustrating because the users are not allowed to change what layout they see from the status toolbar so they are stuck when they get to this problem. Is this a glitch, or am I missing something. If it is a glitch, how to I fix this problem? Many thanks.
  10. Is there a way to put a word document in a field? I thought it could be done with a container field, but now I guess I can't.
  11. How can I get a total of a field from multiple records in a portal. I want to total the cost from the price field of several records in a portal.
  12. This problem involves three databases. One is a purchase order data base. The second is a line item database for the purchase orders. The third is a project database. The way it is set up now, the first database (purchase orders) has repeating fields for the items purchased. But what I want to do is create another database, the second one only dealing with the line items and is related by the purchase order number. Now because one order can have items pertaining to multiple projects, I want to make a portal of these line items in the second database in both the purchase order database and the project data base so each item from any purchase order can be broken up and displayed by either project for the project database, or by purchase order number in that database. The problem is I don't know how to obtain totals from a field from multiple records in a portal, ie extended price. Thank you for any help.
  13. There are a few more problems. The same type of thing happens with the pop up menu fields. Sometimes they don't affect other records, but most of the time they do. This seems to be a glitch, unless I am just not doing something right.
  14. I am having a problem with records in a portal. The records have a few check box fields. If I check a box on one record, that box sometimes gets checked on the other records. All the other, non check box fields work fine. Any ideas?
  15. Is there a function that can change a field's font color or does it have to be applescripted?
