You are right. I have both FM Developer v6 and Devloper v7. I don't see anything ODBS that located in any where in the CD's even I used Window Search to search it. I learned from this forum that ODBC is not installed by default during FM installation, but you have to do it manually, then my question is where he ODBC should be placed? Extension folder? HI, I just create a new file version 6 by using the exact idea from the article to chekc duplicate record, it works fine: just ask me one error message (my custom message) when a duplicated record occured. I do the same thing in version 7, it show me two validation messages?: The attachment is my another testing file verison 6 Any advise Please? Thanks

Hi, I read the article, and I have been using SELF Join to check the duplication. It works find with ealier versions until I upgrade to FMP version 7. What do you think? Thank you for your time?

Hi Vaughan, I found the article on FMP website called: "New Validation Features And Behavior". I read it carefully and understand it very clear (I think). However it still show me two messages. I ran some testing and it seems work fine (ONE message) if I don't have my own calculated Validation, otherword if I use simple FMP validation such as "not empty, Unique value, etc.", then it works fine, and show only one message. I am sure I am missing piece here, but could not figure out what it it. ANy idea please? The attached file is a very simple FP7 file for testing this issue. Thanks

HI, I am running FMP 7 Dev Windows XP. I posted this question before under subject: "Show Message", but I don't think I made myself clear, so here I am again. Sorry I am trying to build a simple Tennis Registration DB for a non-profit tennis center here where I live. I have three files: Student, Class, and Registration. Student.FP7: for Student information such as: Name, address, etc. Class.FP7: list all current tennis classes information such as: classID, ClassName, Day, and Time and coachName Registration.FP7: Serial#, StudentID, StudentName, ClassID, ClassName, etc. Registration file related to Student by StudentID to get StudentName Registration file related to Class by ClassID to get ClassName One of the validations I would like to check is that each record should be uniqued by StudentID and ClassID, otherword there MUST be not a duplicated record by StudentID and ClassID Here is how I did to check if there is a duplicated record by StudentID and ClassID: 1. Make a SELF relationships from Registration file by StudentID to StudentID and ClassID to ClassID. 2. In validation tab: I checked checkbox

Hi I am running Window XP FM Developer 7 I did set up a validation for a field to check if there is a duplicated record. If it is duplicated, then It gives me a customized message (the validation box message) that it is a duplicated record, I just the click the Revert button. That was FMP version 6 I converted this FMP 6 file to version 7, the validation is remained the same, nothing is changed. However when a duplicated record occurs, it is not only show the customized message to ask to Revert the record, but it also show another Filemaker message:

Hi, We are trying to convert one of our FMP client-server application to Web application. We are not sure what tool should we use to build the web front end, but one of our considerations is XML and FMP 7 files as a back-end. We know we need to have FMP Server Advance to serve FMP 7 file. We have never done Web Application before, but we willing to learn new technology that not only help us to do the job now but give us a potential grow in the future, some kind of the industry standard tool. I wonder if someone give us some advise/information such as: 1. XML editor that has debugger cabability 2. a Graphic Visual XML tool. 3. or any thing that we need to know. Our environment is fast and quick turn around, our customer change their requirements very frequently. Thanks for any advise.

Hi, Windows XP, version 7. I wonder if there is a way to oversee/review all my relationships by a Text Listview (like earlier versions). Let's say you have 100 tables and 1000 relationships in one file, to me it is really hard to oversee all relationships in one place in graphic. Hi, Since in layout mode FMP does not have any option to draw a tab view or stylist buttons I wonder if there is any software out there to do that. PhotoShop may be the one, but it is too costly. I just want to draw button or simple graphics for my FMP apps. ANy advised? Thanks

EddyB, Is it anyway to serve multi files from Remote Admin Windows? Right now I can UNSERVE the whole system by click the folder name that contains all files that have been serving, then click Close button. But when I need to serve it back I must to select one file to serve at a time only. And I have about 40 files to serve. Any idea?

I did try, but for some reason (or I missed something) I does not work. It (the New DUP index field) not return the value I want. Can you give me a bit detail how please if you have a chance. I did try the SELF relational to find the duplicated record, but you cannot make the "field" to be indexed because it is relational calculation field. It is any way to make the field to be indexed without scripting.?? Any idea?

Hi, I need to define a field called it as DUP to indicate if there is a duplicated record. I used SELF relational such as if serial# = SELF Serial# then DUP = Uniqued DUP = Duplicated. Otherword: Dup = Serial# = SELF Serial# It works fine , but it cannot use DUP as a key because it cannot be indexed Is there any way to make DUP to be indexed without scripting. Hi, I am Windows User, FMP 5.5 I wonder there is a way to serve multi files at a time from Client sidee by Remote Administration Window. I can close/unserve multi files by clicking the serving folder name that contain my fileS, then click CLOSE button, but I serve the FILES, but when I need to serve them back:I am able to serve ONLY one file at a time. And I have about 45 files. I wonder do I miss anything or that's the way it is? Thank you in advange
