  1. Hello All: FMsvr 5.5 (runningon a w2k svr) & FM pro 5.5. I want to secure access to our database hosted by FM svr, since everyone logs in as a guest. At the properties of server>Guest tab: require filemaker pro guest to login to windows domain is checked. However, when Mac user logs in , it'll ask for those credentials, which are provided but do not give access to DB. the users on the Pc is already logged so not sure whether this automatically counts for filemaker access, since they do get access. The credentials are those someone will use to log in to a share on a w2ksvr. I also want to secure access via the web by having a password enable the database, the option File menu>access privilges>passwords or Change password is not listed whther I open the Db on the FM server or from a client. Thanks!
  2. Ok. Sharing a filemaker database is a client solution only, that what I understand. It can't be done from the server. Correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks again!
  3. Which filemaker product allows to access a database via a browser? I understand filemaker server doesnt, however, that the client can host it be accessible via a browser. If that's the case, is there a server -side solution to have the database access via a browser? Thanks!
  4. Understood. Now, is the default.html referencing the filemaker server 5.5 or filemaker pro? I do have both install on the server. Did a search on the filemaker server hosting the database & the default.html is only on the filemaker pro folder. Does that mean the databae has to be in the filemaker pro folder? Thanks again!
  5. Yes, You are right. I found the settings, is there any specific setting to be done on Internet Informartion Server 5? Or is it all being taking care thru the filemaker pro app? I changed the default 80 port to something else since it's being used. Path is Ip address and then what? Thanks Again!
  6. Hello all: I have filemaker server 5.5. Read that it's possible to access the filemaker database via the a web browser. However, I don't see anything specific to do that. Thanks for your input!
  7. Nevermind. all along I was accessing the wrong copied database. You can actually copy db to another place on the network with no issues.
  8. Ok. The issue was somehow resolved. I was able to see the existing database on the new server by simply manually renaming the database & giving it the .fp5 extension. Then succesfully connected to it. a new issue arised: the database is missing some files (fiels, records) It's basically a contact database. Afterhours I will troubleshoot a bit more, however, I have done the copy & placed thing a few times & same issue. I dont know where the multiuser setting is check, I believe is on the end-client. That was not an issue though since I never checked that specific setting. I welcome and thanks for your help!
  9. Thanks! Server is W2K server (filemaker server 5.5) and clients are filemaker pro 5.5 (mac & pc). The single database was moved as follows: stopped services on both servers Then copied database to filemaker server folder on the new box Started services That was all done aside from making sure the exact same settings from old server. I don't have a client copy on the server & will consider doing that. Not too sure about the multiuser setting. Thanks again!
  10. Hello All: I have a new box to host an existing filemaker database. Relocated (copied) the database itself to the filemaker server folder on the new box and restarted services. Both PC & Mac can see the server but not the relocated database. Suggestions & ideas are welcome! Thanks!
  11. I've schedule the database to be backup to a share on the network. However, the event viewer reports: Schedule "everyday" aborted; the destination "Serversharefilemaker DB backup" not writable. I have made sure that I can access the share from the filemaker server node with an administrator account. Thanks for your help!!
  12. Thanks so much, that did it!!! on other note, It only seems akward the fact that the user cannot place their newly created files directly onto the database on the server (filemaker server). The admin actually has to drag it to the subfolder under filemaker server. Am I doing/understanding this right? Thanks
  13. Hello Everyone! installed filemaker pro 5.5 on PCs & Macs. I am only able to connect to the host (filemaker server) from PCs. The Mac OS 9 clients can't see the server via the Host option from within filemaker pro 5.5. first time ever installing/configuring/working with any version of filemaker. Thanks for your help!!!
  14. Hello Everyone! Able to connect to filemaker server from w2k proffesional nodes but not able to from Mac OS 9 nodes. TCP/IP has been configured on both platforms. When clicking on Hosts, it only shows the server on the PC and not on the Macs. First time installing/configuring filemaker server/pro. Thanks!!!
  15. Thanks for the input guys. It seems that with FM, a number of different databases can be run. We are mainly looking into it for contacts management. We can only use act on the mac platform. Question is, anyone merely using it for contacts management? If so, how different is it from act? What other sorts of DBs can be hosted on FM? Thanks Again!!!
  16. Hello Everyone! Glad to be here for the first time! We're planning on purchasing a filemaker server 5.5 edition. I'm not at verse on this product although I do know it's good for contacts. Does anyone uses it on a windows 2000 server? if, so, what else can you do with it? I went to the features section of the product, and it mentions something about "delivers accelerated networked database performance for up to 125 hosted files". My understanding is that only up to 125 files at any time. Or is it more like 125 hosted times at the most at an specific time? Also, yes, this is the server software, where contacts, database will be hosted, what about the clients: do I need to separately buy a client to access the database? or are the clients for PCs and Macs included when buying the 250 users license? As if that wasn't enough, are there any features not supported on either platform that are great to have? Thanks in advance ladies and gentleman! Thank you!
