  1. Dear all, I am administering a shared database running on an FMP 5.5 Server and accessed by a mixture of v5.5 and v6 users on a variety of Mac and PC platforms. As staff leave and are replaced, the users' identites are getting out of sync with the people actually using the system. Is there a way to change the name of the licenced user without having to delete and re-install the application? Cheers, Dave
  2. Picking up Paul Metzger 's point, FM 6 still hasn't got this sorted out, right? I'm trying to get 30 sliding fields to break sensibly, but some users insist on inputting their own font styles so no matter how carefully I lay this out it just isn't going to work. Is there a solution on the horizon?
  3. Dear all, does anyone know a method for a user accessing through the Web Companion to add a signature to a record which is secure to that user, i.e. is evidence that the user has seen and approved of the record content on the data of the signature. The signature itself does not need to be a graphic, and ideally will be a radio button, but does need to be authenticated as orginating from a specific machine (or user). Cheers, Dave
  4. Dear all, I have developed an application (in Health & Safety) in which users complete a series of radio-buttons through Web Companion. The application then checks the answers and advises the user on action to be taken. I would like to send automatic e-mails to appropriate people if certain box combinations are checked, but I can't find a way to run an e-mail script from a calculation field. Is this possible? Cheers, Dave
  5. Although the script might have worked for FM 3, I cn't get it to work for FM 4 or FM 5 databases. Does anyone know of an update? Dave
  6. I have an FM 4 database of about 1400 records with a container field for a quicktime movie. The movies themselves are stored on 7 CDs, called CD-1 to CD-7. Under earlier versions of the Mac OS (8.1), if the CD in the drive was not the one for the current record's QT file, the OS would prompt "Insert CD-5". Under the newer OS (X) the error dialog simply says "Please locate file <filename>" without any path information. The path data must be held in the db somewhere, because it is still accessible to OS 8. Does anyone know how I can winkle the path out and stick it into a field so that I can build my own error message? Many thanks, Dave
  7. I have a set of related DBs that I wish to put on our intranet. I have set access on the files fully open (read, write etc. all on). The whole this is currently being developed on my OS X Mac. Now, when I open the files with IE v5.5, I can create new records as indicated by the status area on the left. When I open them with Netscape 6.2, I can only show all (can't edit, create new etc.). With Netscape 4.7 (style sheets on), I only see the Fern Green interface, not the Blue & Gold 1 that I specified. I can, though, add new records. The problem is that I lose all my script-controlled buttons under Fren Green. The final application is intended to run under FMP 5.5 unlimited from a Windows NT server. Any ideas what is going on? Thanks, Dave
  8. I have an application written in FM 4 running under OS 8.1 which included a container field for a Quicktime movie. The original quicktime movies occupy 7 CDs and when the user clicked on the container, the system would prompt "Please insert CD-6" (or whatever the CD was called). Running the same application under OS X generates a different error message: now it says "I can't find file 'filename'. Please locate it" and it opens the standard open file dialogue. This is not helpful if you have 7 CDs to search. FM must preserve the path information for the container object somewhere, to make available to OS 8. If I can make that visible by copying it into a field, then I can write a script to put the required disk name into a message box. Problem: Where does FM keep the path information? Any help greatefully received! Thanks, Dave
