FileMaker Pro7 has been running on Windows XP Home Edition with no problems. I now have XP Pro and am not able to connect to the Mac FMP server to access the databases. I get the message: Filemaker cannot be a client or share a file because the networking stack cannot be initialized. My TCP/IP network is working fine- I can ping all networked computers, I can browse the network, and I can send/receive email. I reinstalled FileMaker but it didn't make a difference. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can look for. Firewall on the PC or Mac? Thanks, Bonnie

I'm having a similar problem. When I open the Filemaker PRO 7 application and click on the remote I get this error: Filemaker cannot share or be a client of a file because the networking stack cannot be initialized. Any suggestions? Be kind, I'm not a novice on the computer or Filemaker but am a novice on networking issues. Thanks.

I have installed FMP7 on a new Dell and want to connect to the remote server, a Mac OS X. When I click on Remote it gives me this message: Filemaker cannot share or be a client of a file because the networking stack cannot be initialized.I've been in contact with Dell and they can't help indicating it's a software problem. My son, who works with PCs & Macs looked at it. We have downloaded new drivers, installed a new NIC card and updated to the latest version of FMP7. Nothing works. He says it must be an issue with Filemaker. I'm currently connecting remotely from Macs & other PCs to the server and have no problem. Can anyone help me with this?

Sorry I never got back to you. I was able to use a backup I had made with little updating to do. Thanks for the input.

My database with 3900 records became damaged. I was not at work when it happened so have no history. When I used the Recover command it crashed Filemaker. We have Mac OS X at work and that's where I attempted to recover it. So I did a backup, brought it home and tried to recover it on my PC, Windows XP. No luck, it still crashed Filemaker. Any suggestions?
