  1. Our company has some very complex FMP 5.0 databases, which is slated for a FMP 7.0 upgrade in the future. One of the shortcomings we find with FMP 5.0 is that it lacks Windows authentication, so users log in with passwords that do not required IDs and they do not expire. Does FMP 7.0 address this issue? Ideally it would integrate with Windows and allow for an ID/PW configuration providing for a more secure environment. BTW, we do have tracking in place user the user name defined in preferences, but really need to ID/PW process with expiring to meet internal audit needs. Any information is greatly appreciated. Thank you
  2. Since FMP 5.0 is not supported on a Windows 2003 server, we are testing to confirm it still functions are expected. As part of our contingency plan we are testing the drag-drop process to convert our 5.0 DBs to 7.0, but are not confident this will work well since I have read that complex DBs do not convert well without a re-write. One more test we are considering is using FMP 5.0 on our client devices to access a FMP 7.0 DB on the Windows 2003 server. Is this possible?
  3. Is it possible to create an ID/PW for each FileMaker user? We currently utilize the password logic in FMP, but were hit on an internal audit for poor security since we did not have an ID/PW process. Is this possible with FileMaker Pro 5.5?
  4. We are looking to install the Windows 2000 SP4 patch and would like to know if any users installed this patch and, if so, was it a smooth transition? Any information is appreciated. Thanks
  5. We currently have FMP 5.5 Server Software on a Windows 2000 Server and am upgrading to Windows 2003. Is FMP 5.5 Server Software compatable with Windows 2003 Server? We have 200+ user, so an upgrade to FMP 7.0 is not in the plan, plus all my reading tells me it is not seamless and we have some very complex DBs that could not be rewritten in the required timeframe. Any inrformation is greatly appreciated. Thanks
  6. The problem is that we have Access and FileMaker DBs. We have folks that are very well versed in Access and one that is exceptional in Access and FMP. We need to provide a resource for the Access folks to learn FMP. I also performed internet searches and found a CD set, but am hesitant to purchase without knowing what others recommend.
  7. My department performs reporting from roughly 100 FMP DBs that were created by a developer no longer with the department. Needless to say, I have 3-4 folks that need FMP Training. What are the best FMP CDs (Preferred 5.0 or 5.5 since that is our version) for training. I would prefer CDs that have example exercises so the new information can be applied. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated. Thanks
  8. Can we get around the Microsoft legal issue if we have the FMP application on a desktop device without FMP server software and have the users host in?
  9. Is FMP Server 5.5 functional with FMP 5.0 DBs?
  10. Thank you for the responses. To clarify the 10 user issue....we would like to place the DBs on a Desktop device with the Server software installed. In essense, the Desktop would act as our "server", but is truly not a server in our environment. The Desktop runs the Windows 2000 Pro O/S and I read in the FM Server documentation that there is a 10 user limit under Windows 2000. Is this true? We were going to test for validation, but we only have one license and the software only allows one copy (license) to work on the same network.
  11. Our company currently has a high number of FMP 5.0 DB's with no planned upgrade to 7. That said, we are running the 5.0 server software and need to purchase another copy for installation on a desktop device that will host the files as opposed to our server that hosts the other files (long story). Is the Server 7.0 software compatable with FMP 5.0 DB's or must we purchase another copy of server 5.0? Since we are looking to install the server software on a Desktop Device running Windows 2000 Pro/XP, I see the documentation states there is a 10 user limit. Is this limit valid or can we have 40 users hosting to the desktop device? Is the upgrade from FMP 5.0 to FMP 7.0 DBs as seamless as 4.0 to 5.0 or would it require additional work like 3.0 to 4.0? Any, and all, information is greatly appreciated. Thanks

  13. Our company is upgrading to FMP 6.0 from 5.0. Can someone tell me if a database is upgraded or created in 6.0, can it be read in 5.0? I know when we went from 4.0 to 5.0 once the database was converted to 5.0 it could not be read in 4.0. Any information is greatly appreciated. Thank you
  14. I have a relational FMP database that creates monthly and YTD reports. In the YTD reporting I need to omit records that have duplicate values for one particular field and only count the most recent record with that field. I created a counter and used the duplicate function in FMP, but that works the exact opposite of me needs...meaning it calls every record after the first iteration a duplicate. I need a process that will call the prior records duplicates and identify the last record as unique. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks
