  1. I am deploying a system that comprises 95 files on the server. So far everything was just running fine on many customers I have. This week I am deploying on new machines (client) running xp sp2 and when I try to open very simple files it takes too long. The odd thing is that when I change the subnet mask from 255.255.255.0 to 255.255.0.0 I get normal opening speed, but this is causing slowdown on mapped drives and other things. Can anyone help me please.
  2. Stanley, one more information I tested with FM6.0DEV on WXP Pro. Still having problems Just to let you know
  3. Stanley Thank you so much for your input, nonetheless I can assure that this has to do with LX-300 +, I have the same system running with another printer and it runs smooth. Also I brought the printer to my home and tested in A WXP and experienced the same problem For you to have an idea, when I have to set up a form (example: an invoice) for my system I roughly place the fields in the layout, print a page, and then with a ruler I Just go on Size window and put all fields into place. Because using a ruler I just know exactly what shall I type in the size box under layout mode. The odd thing that happened was that in 3 printouts from the same layout with no changes at all I got 3 different sizes in printout for the same fields. The locations of the fields would not comply with the measures that show up on window size, nor the font size (usually bigger) I event typed in a text 132 lines long where I had at 1st line '1', second line
  4. I just ran into the same problem even with filemaker 5.5 dev. Upgraded driver from epson, tried on w98 and w2k server. Always the same symptom. I think the best will be exchanging the printer :-(
  5. Since i could not have a solution, this is the workaround I did - The only one I could figure out. Since I need only to gather info from my partners network I did one file to each distributor (clone) and once a day I import the contents to the main file. This way I could give one password for each distributor and provide them with the http link to his specific file. If there is a smarter way I would be glad to know
  6. Hi There. I am here in Brazil with the same exact situation, even tough I am using FMPD 6.0 and IWP. I am quite experienced with Passwords, Levels and permissions with non web usage of FM. To be honest I do not belive that the problem resides on that. My FM Databases are intended for a network of distributors to register and add follow up information for each business opportunity. My password enables me to see all their activity. The password for each distributor allows them to view, edit and delete theirs opportunities. So at Password level I have determined that Browsing, editing and Deleting were limited by this clause :the contents of the field distributor name mathes that specific distributor's name. If I do not limit browsing (but keep editing and deleting limitations) it works through the web, and even tough a certain distributor can see others distributor's opportunities he is not able to edit or delete such information. The problem - in my opinion - resides on the limitation for browsing records. So I have added some information to the problem and I hope someone gives us the solution. Thanks
  7. Anatoli, you were right about printing! Thanks. Now that I have deployed the TS solution I found out something curious and I wanted to know if this is just the way it is, or If I am doing something wrong. When you try to run TS on the same machine you are running FM Server the session is very very slow (FileMaker Speed). The machine where I experienced this slow performance was a W2K PIII 1.0GHZ with 1 GB RAM. When I used a second W2K Server PIII 750 256MB RAM to run FM Server (on the same LAN), the TS session with FM ran at full speed. So I understand that is not possible to run FM55 Server and TS running FM50 on the same machine! Is my assumption correct? Thanks
  8. I have FM55 server under W2K hosting 15 files and 12 clients running fm5.0 under W98. I have a script that export data in html format and then sends an e-mail with this file attached. The problem is that I specified the path and the name of the file to be exported (C:). The export goes fine in any client, it exports the file to c:. But when the sendmail script step is invoked (even tough I had specified the path c: to get the file to be attached the client never finds the right path. I even tried to shut down the server, open the files with FM5.0, set up the paths (and then it works). When I open the files in fm55server and try to do the same thing on the client I get no error message and no email sent. Also I noticed that if you use an empty field trying to send email fm simply does not send the mail neither error message. Thanks in advance for your help.
  9. Thank you very much for your help so far. But now that it is working perfectly some problems arise... Since the terminal Server is a session on a remote machine how the remote user will get printouts ? Does TS allow you to run there (at the server) and print where you are connected?
  10. Terminal Services showed up as the best solution. Nevertheless there is something curious about the fm license. You need to install on your machine a 5 user license number or more, because when you try to open more than one terminal server session fm tells you ... " max number of users already using.. " . One other important thing is to use the terminal server on a separate machine where the fmserver runs, I do not know why but it did a big performance difference (it went better with terminal servers host on a separate server)
  11. Hi there, this is my first post and I have developed a System with 20+ tables with many relationships. I have 15 clients FM 5.0 and a FM 5.5 Server. So far the performance (local Lan was perfect). We had to access the files through a VPN (W2K)over a 256k dsl connection. But just to open the 20+ files is taking 15 minutes, when the Lan time is less than 10 sec. I do not have a clue of what is wrong! The only thing I noticed is that any other use of the DSL connection the tranfer rates are much higher... when I am using only FM it goes really slow (1/10th of the transfer rate approx.) Any ideas?
