  1. I'm at my wits end with this problem. I searched through previous posts but couldn't find the solution. I had a Windows NT Server 4.0 which is my file server. I had my Filemaker Pro 4.0 files hosted on this server. Users in my LAN could access the files via FM clients in the network, as well as from outside the LAN (remote). Then recently I upgraded the file server to Windows 2003 Server. I installed FM Pro 4.0 in the new server and hosted the SAME files. Now, client access from within my LAN is not affected. They can access the hosted files, no problems. Problem is when I try to access the files from remote (outside my LAN). I try the normal way (which worked on the NT Server), ie, by "Specifying Host" but the hosted files are no longer listed. As far as I know the router has forwarded port 5003 to the new server (ie the new FM host). I've checked with my network vendors and they said network-wise, all the protocols are in place. They claim the problem to be application-specific, and their support stops there. I have enabled the "Remote Administration" plug-in and have edited fmhosts.txt file to include the new server. Rebooted the server, STILL the hosted files are not listed. Can someone please help me? I'm getting desperate.
  2. Hi, please pardon this long post, but I have nowhere else to ask for help. I am a N-O-V-I-C-E user of FM Pro. Have used FM pro4.0 sparingly before given the unenviable task of "upgrading to FM Pro 7.0 with Web Publishing capabilities". So I read whatever info I can get on conversion and set about doing it. Now, the conversion's completed. Only these few problems got me stuck; 1) I am getting page format problems after conversion. The FM Pro 4.0 documents were configured to print to fit A4 size very nicely. After conversion, however, the fonts became shrunken and the page format became distorted. Some lines on the page were missing. 2) Some of our FM Pro 4.0 documents contain fields that show information from other external FM databases. I host the FM Pro 7 converted files on IWP via browser. On the host, the files appear quite alright, but on the clients after conversion however, these fields show "File Missing" instead of the external data. Can you please guide me on these problems?
  3. Thank you for your reply Mr Vaughn. 1) "I heard that in FM Pro 7, I can post all the databases on a website." You can in FMP 4 too, it was one of it's biggest features. FMP 7 does it much better. How can FM4 databases be hosted on a website? Please pardon my seemingly "stupid" questions for I am REALLY clueless. By "website" do we mean "the Internet" or for just a local LAN? 2) "I need to create a facility-booking scheduling calendar for the office." Sure FMP 7 can do this. It'll be a lot of work though... in *any* database development system. There may be some pre-built systems around, but don't expect any freeware.I am not looking for freeware. Am prepared to pay as long as my requirements are met. I was wondering if there are ALREADY third-party softwares that work alongside FMPro in providing something like a facility-booking scheduling calendar. Also, looking at something like a "daily staff-attendance" program. A simple program, just to know if a staff called in sick, on leave, etc. Am hoping to find an existing program that can meet my requirements. Hoping to integrate it with FMPro if possible. Can you please help recommend some?
  4. I BEG for pardon if I posted this thread in the wrong site. I am a very very new user of FM Pro. Currently my office is using FM Pro 4. We are thinking to upgrade to version 7 very soon. (Please bear in mind that I am totally new to FM) 1) I heard that in FM Pro 7, I can post all the databases on a website. Is this true? If it is, can anyone with access to a web browser be able to access my databases? Even those without the FM program installed? Will these users be able to edit the records in the d/bases online? 2) I need to create a facility-booking scheduling calendar for the office. Purpose is to allow creation/cancellation booking of board rooms, meeting rooms, office equipment, etc. Does FM Pro 7 carry this feature? Or can you recommend any 3rd-party softwares that may run integratively with FM Pro? I saw Meeting Maker, just wondering if someone'd recommend me more. I appreciate any feedback. Thank you.
  5. oops.. sorry... found the "Store only reference to this file" checkbox. Its there when I click "Import Picture".
  6. Hi there... I can't seem to find that button which activates the script which has the command import Picture. I am running FM4.0 You are my best bet for help in this case.
  7. Wow, what a relief to actually hear that someone else had the same problem as I did. So Neville, just so I got you right, I should actually delete ALL the pics in the database... then insert a script that stores only the reference to the pic, not the actual pic file itself. This is where I am lost. I am a novice at FM Pro 4, so aside from cutting and pasting the pics, I really do not know how to do as you advised. Can you help this st*pid fool on how to go about doing that? I can never thank you enough...
  8. No Mr BruceR, The files were not damaged at all... All I had to do was restart the application in the server and FM will perform consistency checks on the documents and re-host them. I tried importing the pics from File | Import | Import picture.... the app hung, tries copying pics then pasted them in the picture frame, the app hung. Tried cropping and resizing the pics into many different sizes, the app hung. I am at a lost, but it is imperative that I get the job done. Please give me some advise...
  9. Hello there... I have a strange problem in my office's FM Pro v.4. The server at my office hosts all my FM documents and domain clients who access any of the documents have to view them as guests. Everyone's using the same version by the way. One of the documents hosted is a staff personal particulars file which holds all the information about each staff. My job is to simply add in staff pictures into each profile (and I'm doing this NOT from the server but from my own desktop). I did it once about a few months ago by just cutting the picture in photoshop and pasting it in the picture frame in each staff's profile page. Now, when I tried it again a few days back, the WHOLE FM Pro application in the WHOLE office died, including the one in the server. I had to Ctrl+Alt+Del and End Task in the host server, restart the app and re-host the documents. Only then can other users re-access the FM documents. Thinking it was a coincidence, I tried the same method a few more times but EVERY single time I did that the whole FM application in ALL the staff PCs as well as the server, hung. And EVERY single time I had to restart the app in the server and re-host as multi-user for others to use. I am a very fresh beginner user of FM Pro. Can any kind experts plese help me?
