  1. Yeah, somebody at some point on one of the FM Forums had the Mac 5.5v4 updater, trying to see if anybody has it...
  2. I have a client who purchased a canned non-FM solution and has grown tired of it. Prior to them moving to this, they had a FM Server 5.5 solution that has been backed up, and we have the original 5.5v1 installation disc etc. However, the Database Server will not start up and stay up. I know this is a known error, and I am in place to begin migrating it to FMP Server 12 (re-building the solution). But in the meantime to get the old layouts etc, I would like to SEE the old solution running and running properly so I have reference. Now before you say, use Filemaker 6 or something else, there are 68 total Databases, and FMP has a 50 file limit, thus I require the server version to get this started. Filemaker has removed all of the old updaters from their web site, and I am unable to locate a copy of this specific update ANYWHERE. So if anyone has it, please let me know. kpt
  3. This is pretty typical response of the the 'current' generation of old IT folks. So you're saying they should run right out and drop 5k on a Mac Pro and load it up? When they could have a 5 stack of Mac Mini's instead. With Core i7's, 16gb of RAM, a fast SSD drive and thunderbolt backup options? You've been quoted multiple times saying this machine isn't recommended, but several others have posted that they've been using these little boxes, which are cheap, which are easily replaced, and have provided exactly ZERO, NADA, NIL, ZILCH reasoning. As a professional IT person, I would rather have 5 redundant Mac Mini's than a single Mac Pro tower at this point, as they are an inexpensive solution that is EASILY REPLACED. I can't just walk down to most stores, and in some case even Apple Store's and pick up a top of the line Mac Pro. But I can walk into most places that sell Apple Products and grab a Mac Mini and have something back up and running from a restored backup in no time. <REDACTED BY ADMIN - UNPROFESSIONAL BEHAVIOR>
  4. you can call it dumb all you want, but these machines haven't changed names (or users) in almost a decade. It's simple to admin and train people on (hell the secretary could train somebody how to use the system). The machines have changed, but the logins have not, and will likely not. Are you so lazy as to not have the time or effort to go in and change a single little script if a user name DOES CHANGE?
  5. actually, the user names won't change (they're generic based on the computer)...
  6. So, I've got a fairly large, complex database. There are 10 users. I have 2 front end layouts, one for Administrators, and one for end clients. What I would like to happen is that when the DB opens, it runs a script that will take the username and determine WHICH layout to drop them into. Any takers?
  7. wondering if there's any way to do this? I have a fairly simple script that needs to run on record being commited due to the fact that my users are too stupid to click a button (even if when a warning popup occurs). Hence I need to automate this occurance for them when they leave the record or make a change to the record. Solutions?
  8. Out of curiosity, I've built a calendar (layout is in a different table). Built like this: Main Layout has 42 fields in 42 portals, each with a unique verifier. 2nd layout contiains information about each day/date and a unique verifier that links the two together. in 2nd layout, there is a relationship to an entirely different DB that pulls Sales Orders (just the order numbers) by date and lists all the SO's in a portal. Is it possible to pull that portal information into the portals? It goes like this: Calendar Day possible 1 of 42, uniqueID links to actual calendar days layed out in 365 records via uniqueID. Each record of the 365 has it's own unique ID (the date). The Date links to another DB by date and pulls SO#'s into a portal. Can I pull one portal into another?
  9. OK, here's the Skinny. I have created XSLT files using the Filemaker Site Assistant, no problems editing, there's some tricks, but I have those down now for making them look how I want. The issue I'm having is thus: I have a layout in Filemaker. At the top of the record is a header area that contains 4 fields like so: Job Number, Jobs::Job Name, Jobs::Job Ship Method, Jobs::Job Ship Date. (please note, the Jobs::field name references a related field based on the Job Number itself). In the Body there are these fields: Element Number, Element Name, Element Size etc.... in the actual line items from the record area, it has the job name, number etc. However, I do not WANT to see these for each line item (about 15 records in a list) I only want to see them ONCE at the top similar to how I see it in Filemaker. I have removed these fields from view editing the XSL files. But how do I get a single line item to view? I put the field code back in, and it shows all 15 of them, when I really only want to see 1.
