OK. I think I have found the problem (not the solution). I have determined that the number of characters that can be uploaded to the browser’s address bar by the Open url script with Windows 7 has been reduced. I don’t know why but the same script in XP will upload the url limit in IE8 (2048 ?? characters). But the number is far less with Windows 7. If I upload about half the characters in 7 it works. Why would this change with Windows 7 and is there a way to make some kind of adjustment? I appreciate any insight.

Not sure if this is the right forum. I apologize if it’s not. We developed an in house solution that creates and updates records on a website that uses php and MySQL. We know little about php, MySQL or website development and the company that developed our site knows little about FM. But working together we came up with a solution that allowed us to create and update records on our website using the open url script step. This has worked beautifully for over 6 years with XP OS. But we are starting to replace some of our computers with newer Windows 7 OS and the same script will not work. Of course the website developer claims everything is working correctly on his in and the problem is with Windows 7 and/or Filemaker, which may be the case. We are using FM9, Windows 7 professional , IE8, and MS Security Essentials for our AV. We concatenate a web link (www.organization.com/admin/submitphp?) with a field identifier plus the field data. We then upload the concatenated field using the open url script step. Works great with XP. Below is a sample part of the field calculation. There is actually about 25 fields of data. When we want to update an existing record from FM we used the same calculation but substitute “/update.php?” for “/submit.php?”. "www.organization.com/admin/submit.php?" & "u" & "=" & MasterID & "&" & "fn" & "=" & FName & "&" & "mn" & "=" & MName & "&" & "ln" & "=" & LName …….etc. When we call the script in Windows 7 the screen flashes but nothing happens, not even an error from FM. BTW, I tried using Fire Fox and Chrome. Same result. I’m guessing it has something to do with the heighten security built into Window 7. I did check to be sure FM was allowed through the firewall. I don’t know what else to do at this point. I’m hoping someone might offer some suggestions. I appreciate any help.

We recently install a new windows 7 machine. We use the web viewer in FM10 to pull phone number and address information from a phone book website. It works fine on the XP machines but will not display on the Windows 7 machine. The script is designed to open a new window and then go to a layout where the web viewer is set up. The script will open the new window but will not transition to the layout containing the web viewer. We also have a url script that opens our website and uploads information into a form. Works with XP but not Windows 7. I'm hoping there is some security setting with 7 for accessing the web via a program that can be changed to correct the problem. If so, I have not been able to find it. Can anyone shed some light on this issue? Thanks....BTW, we are using IE8.

Filemaker is locking up after a few minutes use on a client computer. The file is runs fine on other client machines,no problem. So I believe the file is sound and the problem rest with this particular computer. Either something is missing or conflicting with Filemaker. I have done a clean install of Filemaker but that did not correct the problem. The only recent change was the uninstall of a spyware removal program, which was also removed from the other computers too. Like I said the other computers are fine. The problem computer is a Dell Optiplex 330 XP Pro SP2. It has performed fine up till now. I'm at a loss as to my next move. Can anyone please help? thanks.

Malware prevents FM from opening?
Norvin replied to Norvin's topic in Damaged / Corrupt File Problems
I found the solution to the problem. I uninstalled the Spyware removal program and also removed the qurantine files. Evidently removing Nullo(short)originally either corrupted the spayware program, causing it to play havoc with FM or the quarantined malware was causing the problem. In either case, when I removed both, FM opened no problem. Thanks -
Malware prevents FM from opening?
Norvin replied to Norvin's topic in Damaged / Corrupt File Problems
The FM file is on a dedicated host (peer to peer, OS- XP Pro). Other client machines are able to open the file no problem. On the infected (?) computers we cannot even open the Filemaker program file so I don't think there is a problem with the host file. I have discovered the file that seems to be trashed each time the computers are rebooted. This surfaced after I ran CCleaner. The missing file is DL61ACE.dll or at least, that is the message I got when I tried to open FM. Again, after reboot I can do a repair through the control panel's add/remove software with the FM install disk and everything is fine until we have to reboot the computer. As I stated earlier the problem appears to be related to the scan and removal of malware called Nullo(short). So far the only evidence that it may still be viable is this reboot problem with FM. We have not yet encountered any other problems. Thanks for your response. Any other ideas, anybody, short of reformatting the HD? -
Yesterday morning when we opened Filemaker (on 3 different computers) the same dialog box appeared on all 3 systems with the following message: “The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-Rom or other removable disk which is not available.” So I went through the control panel, add remove software and did a repair using the original install disk. This seemed to correct the problem until the computers were restarted again. Same message appeared on all three computers. I went through the same procedure above and Filemaker opened, no problem until another restart. I also tried a clean install of Filemaker, same thing after a restart. Let me add, because I think it’s related, that same morning I ran a virus scan that remove 11 instances of malware that I’ve never seen before called Trojan.Agent/Gen-Nullo(short). Identical readings on all 3 computers. A reboot was required to remove the malware and that’s when the problem first appeared. On a forth computer we ran the same spyware scan and Trojan.Agent/Gen-Nullo(short) was not found and there was no problem with Filemaker. I assume that this is malware related but at this point it only seems to be affecting Filemaker and the malware appears to be gone. Has anyone else experienced this problem or can you provide any suggestions on how to correct it. I appreciate your help.

I have a script where the last step is Go to Field. The field has a scroll bar and contains more info than can be seen without manually scrolling. Is there a way to have to have the script automatically scroll to the bottom of the field? Thanks

I'll try to report back the outcome. It may be a while, we are just now in the talking stage. Thanks for responding.

My company is looking at switching to a web hosted version of MS Exchange in an effort to better manage our emails. We have multiple office locations so the idea is to consolidate all email communication to single a server (in the clouds) using the web hosted version of Outlook 2007. Currently each location does a good portion of email from Filemaker using the client version of Outlook Express. The offices are small so each is set up in a peer to peer environment. The company we are talking to has no experience with Filemaker but say it should not be a problem to switch to the web hosted Outlook 2007. Can anyone tell me if this is doable and what considerations we should be aware of with such an arrangement? Thanks.

I want to uninstall FM9 (recently installed FM10). I understand that I now have to deactivate the copy of FM9 before I can uninstall. According to the Help file that would normally be done under the Help menu but since this is a volume licensed copy, according to FM Knowledge Base, the Deactivation option is not available. FM Knowledge Base (Answer ID 6470) offered a couple of resolutions. 1. use a file with the options available, 2. close and then re launch Filemaker. The first is not an option and the second didn’t work (didn’t really make any sense to me). Any suggestions on how to deactivate a volume license copy of FM9? Thanks Nor

Thanks, but I get the same results with FM10.

I sometimes print labels for file folders using a script and layout in FM on a Brother Label printer. I have used it for sometime with no problems. Today Filemaker stuck on the label format and I haven’t even used the label printer for a few days. No matter what printer or settings I choose, FM prints as if I had selected the label printer. I have tried printing from the menu. I have tried to change the Print Setup and Print scripts. I have created new print scripts. I even uninstalled the print driver for the Brother Printer. Preview mode looks correct. The default is set to my regular printer. But, no matter the setting or printer I chose, FM prints the label format (2/3” x 3-7/16) in the top left corner of a 8. x 11 sheet of paper. Can anyone tell me what’s going on and how I might correct this problem. Thanks

Script not executing on all computers
Norvin replied to Norvin's topic in Script Workspace and Script Triggers
Does for me on two computers. But the one I need it to run on, it won't. I don't know why it would make any diffrence, but the two it runs on are laptops. The two it won't run on are desktops. Does that provide a clue? -
Script not executing on all computers
Norvin replied to Norvin's topic in Script Workspace and Script Triggers
The buttons in question are on the PR_PayRecord layout. There two buttons (two scripts) that work together in the navigation. One is labeled "Go To Next Line". The other button is directly underneath the one. Thanks for taking a look. SFDPRv2SL_Clone.zip -

Script not executing on all computers
Norvin replied to Norvin's topic in Script Workspace and Script Triggers
I checked. Appears that it does not even attempt to execute. -
I have a simple navigation script attached to a button that is part of a tab sequence. I cycle through the fields using the enter key. After the last field I land on the button, hit the enter key and the script runs. Good. I copied the file to another computer. Same OS (XP) same version FM9 Adv. However the button script will not execute. The cursor lands on the button but when I hit enter nothing happens. I tried on a another computer in our office, same results. I even tried it over the network, still didn't work. I cannot not figure out what the difference would be. Hoping someone can tell me. Thanks

Sorry for the delayed response. The only privilege sets I have for the external file (MO_MarkerOrder) are the default settings when I created it. The only active account is Admin. So, unless I’m missing something, I don’t think that’s the problem. Let me provide a little more information and maybe give a better picture. I have two FM files. MS_Master and MO_MarkerOrder. Each file contains an external reference to the other. I have some lookup fields in MO_MarkerOrder and they work fine. I want to set a go to related record script in MS_Master that will target the related record in MO_MarkerOrder. If I attach the go to related record script directly to the button, works, no problem. However, if I create the same go to related record script in the Manage Script window and attach it to a button via perform script step, nothing happens. At this point there are no other script steps involved and I also selected the run with full access privileges. I’m baffled. Hoping someone can show me the error of my way. Thanks

Thanks for taking a look. There’s not much to it at this point. The Data Source is Filemaker. The table reference is MO_MarkerOrder. That is also the name of the target layout of the referenced table. Like I said if I create this script step attached directly to a button it works but if I create the same script step inside the edit script window and attach it with a “perform script” to a button it doesn’t work. If all I needed was a go to related record I’d settle for the button script but I need to build more steps around the go to related record. Below is the script as it appears in the edit script window Go to Related Record [show only related records; From table: "MO_MarkerOrder";External;Using layout:"MO_MarkerOrder" (MO_MarkerOrder)]
-
Can someone please tell why a go to related record script (to an external FM file) works fine attached to a button but if I try to run it as a perform script step, nothing happens. It is the same script. What (obvious thing) am I missing. Thanks

Thanks Fitch. I'm sorry but I'm still not clear what settings to check. Are we talking about Local user and group settings?I'm logged in as Admin, same as always before SP3. I also have a problem with one of Windows secuirty updates installing. The "Security Update for Microsoft .Net Framework, Version 2.0 (KB928365)" won't install. Could this be ralated to plugins not installing? I'm grabbing for straws here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
-
It's all of the 3rd party plugins I use, which are only 2, EventScript and Scriptfire. As I say they all worked fine before SP3. In fact, another colleague upgraged to SP3 and experinced the same problem. So it appears to be specific to SP3.

Vaughan, I'm not sure I understand. Are these premissions in Filemaker that allow or prevent plugins from loading? Where do I go to check? Thanks
