  1. I upgraded with no issues. Version 9 is a major improvement even over Version 8. The only problem I had was setting the correct number of hosted files on the server, as by default it was not a very high number. If you have any apps that need the ldap, you have to set that backup manually. Version 9 is pretty awesome, and I'm really enjoying it.
  2. I'm in the process of trying to setup my FM 8.5 Server and Clients to using External Server Authentication for all security. I've setup all the groups and the Privelage sets in all my files. The problem I am having is I don't understand how I can have multiple security sets on a single file with multiple layouts. For instance: The file named Galaxy has 30 different layouts. I have 2 groups made, FMSales and FMAccounting. Both groups can view all layouts in this file. I want FMSales to be able to edit a layout called Order Entry, but FMAccounting would only have view only access. I have another layout in this file called Invoice, that I want FMAccounting to have edit access to, while FMSales has view only.
  3. I have very similiar problems with my laptop. It only occurs on my laptop and nowhere else. I have a Dell Inspiron 9300. What kind of laptop do you have?
  4. no anti-virus is running...
  5. I set my virtual ram to the max as defualt to 4096 mb. All of my computers are set to that, as I've learned that as a best practice over the years. I hate to say it, but I'm happy to see that I'm not the only one with these type of issues.
  6. I have a laptop that runs both Filemaker Advanced 8.0 V3 and 8.5. It's a Dell Inspiron 9300 with 1gb of RAM and an ATI Radeon X300, Windows XP Pro SP 2 all updates. For whatever reason, if my laptop is not restarted for a few days, the display of Filemaker gets out of whack. If I go into Layout mode, I can't see any of the borders of any text objects or any objects at all. When I go into a field and I try to type into it, you can't see any of the text you are typing. When I click out of it, whatever you typed in there will be displayed. All button effects do not show up at all in any format such as Bezeled, Chiseled, Drop Shadow, etc. This is driving me crazy, and the only thing that fixes it is restarting my laptop. I have done a complete Windows XP reisntall of this machine and it worked fine for a while before it came back. I also have reinstalled Filemaker and all of my video drivers. Nothing seems to fix this. This is the only computer where I have this problem, and I suspect it is related directly to the video card or their drivers. I had these problems as well when I only had either Advanced 8.0 V3 installed or Advanved 8.5 by themselves. It also doesn't matter whether I'm running the Files from the server or locally. Has anyone else had weird display problems as well? If anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears, as I'm getting really tired of rebooting my ******* laptop every few hours to get my work done!!
  7. This is not a migrated solution. The Find is taking a long time, and the Summary is taking the normal amount of time. Here's the structure. I'm performing my find on a Unstored, Calculated field called QtyRemainingTotal. I'm using a separate UI system to view the Data which has a relationship built from the OEIT (Order Entry Line Items table) to the OE (Order Entry Header Table). The QtyRemainingTotal sits in OEIT. The Diagram I posted above is my Reporting UI file, which is nothing but TO's and contains 0 actual data. It's completely a UI system. I already know why my searches are taking so long. I wasn't really perplexed as to why it was taking so long, rather how I can speed it up. I really like the Anchor Buoy model so far, and as I am just learning it, was hoping that someone had already encountered the same problems as I have had and could tell me what I was doing wrong/right.
  8. Let me clarify that my Reporting System sits out seperately from the Data System. It's essentially a UI.
  9. I can't really understand what SD is trying to say, but I will say that we did try what Fenton said by constraining my found set with a loop, and it did not help. We eliminated the parent records, and only searched on the found set with little improvement.
  10. Sorry for the late response. I took a screenie of my TOG's. I'm running a basic backlog that is pulling Items from my Order Entry (OE) TO, and my Order Entry Items (OEIT) TO. My search function is find everything that has a value greater then 0 for the field QtyRemaining.
  11. Yes, they are both updated to V3. What makes you think it isn't?
  12. I have just started to use the Anchor Buoy model for all of my reports, which I generally have really liked. Everything was going great, until I tried to do any type of report with a fair sized amount of data. My specific example is a backlog report for a manufacturing company. I am running a find on all Open Orders in my Order Items Table, then list them out with the Remaining Qty. Nothing fancy going on here, but with 100k records, it takes over 15 mins to run, then summarize the total. This is of course, unacceptable and could never be used by anyone in our production environment. What is a reasonable solution to this other then not using Anchor Buoy or some ad hoc global temp table. We tried to use loops and it wasn't any better.
