  1. Overview: We are looking for a FileMaker developer to work on a series of internal and client-based projects. We have a FileMaker database solution that we have built from scratch over the last 10 years. Our database is a key system that the entire company uses every day. It handles our calendar, estimates, requests, invoices, timesheets, client information, as well as several other modules. In addition to access through FileMaker, we have set up web access for clients and employees to be able to enter and view data as needed. As we continue to grow, our database needs new features to allow for the streamlining of the business. In addition to internal work, we have several clients who have similar FileMaker needs. Some of our clients have fully developed databases that are in need of new layouts and reports, while others are just beginning to create their databases, and need lots of development. Minimum Qualifications: * At least 1 year experience working with FileMaker * Extensive knowledge of proper database design and object oriented programming * Ability to work with clients to develop a database solution that works for them Desired Skills: * Knowledge of available features in FileMaker Pro 8.5 * Knowledge of FileMaker Server * Knowledge of Lasso, PHP, or other web extensions to FileMaker * Fast learner who can adapt to new technologies Who we are: Mann Consulting is a 15-year-old computer consulting company. Our mission is to provide outstanding support to small and medium sized businesses. With a presence in San Francisco and Los Angeles, we support over two hundred companies each year. We offer a supportive and fair work environment with an emphasis on creating and maintaining strong client relationships. We work as a team, sharing a comprehensive knowledge base, instant messages and intranet, all to form a powerful, valuable I.T. solution to our clients. Compensation: Competitive salary based on experience, structured bonus plan, and full medical and dental coverage How to Apply: Please send your resume and salary requirements to dgabriner@mann.com . Please include “FileMaker Developer” in the subject line and include your resume in the body of the email. No attachments please.
  2. I just upgraded our server from FMS 7 to 8, and our clients from 7 to 8.5. A problem that has shown up is that when we try to go to Script Maker on our Companies database, it is greyed out. Now I tried opening the non-hosted Companies database file, and it seems to be functioning perfectly fine. However, when I copy this file into the hosted files folder, and host it from the server, when I try to access it I cannot get into Script Maker. There is a login/password associated with the database, but I use the same one in both cases. One thing that might be related is that I had to recover and compact the database in order to get the server to open it. I tried only compacting, but the server can't open that file. Also, when I try to go into layout mode to edit something, it says "This action cannot be performed because this file is not modifiable" Any ideas? Thanks, Danny
  3. I just upgraded from FM Server 7 to FM Server 8, and in the process, broke my Lasso connection. When I tr to run the Lasso8Service, I get an error of "ERROR: Site process /tmp/lassosite_1 unable to create pipe". Any ideas? Thanks.
  4. I am looking for a recommendation for a new system for our filemaker server. We have about 30 different databases, some small, some big, that all interact with each other. The application is in constant use throughout the day, and it manages our entire calendar system, client requests, and many other things. There are usually about 10 clients logged onto the system. A lot of things we do are rather quick, but anytime I change add a field, or change a table occurance relation, I feel the "hang" of the system working. Also, we have a few scripts that take way too long, and although the are doing some complex calculations with appointment times and other information, they really should be quicker. We currently are using a PC, with an AMD Anthlon XP 2700+ processor, 1 gig of ram, and two mirrored 80 gig HDs. However, we are only "using" half a gig of RAM (according to the tech guy, I'm not exactly sure what he means). We have an extremely fast network, so I doubt that is a bottleneck. We are currently using FM Server 7, with FM 8.5 clients, but I think we are about to upgrade our server to 8. Our local tech guy recommended a system with 2 (or 3) gigs of ram, an intel core 2 duo processor, and 4 80 gig HDs for a RAID 1 + 0 setup. Should we do this on a mac or PC? Thanks for any help on the subject.

  6. What do you mean by help FM use RAM? Our system currently has 1 GB of RAM, but according to someone here, is only "using" half of that. Our network is extremely fast, so I doubt that is a bottleneck, and we have 2 mirrored 80 gig HDs. The processor is AMD Athlon XP 2700+, could this be a bottleneck? Would adding 2 GB help if we are only currently "using" half a gig? Also, we currently have about 10 clients at any given time on the system. Thanks again.
  7. I tried that, but it doesn't work. I think the box is a character that represents a whole host of things, so it doesn't substitute in correctly. Anything else? Thanks.
  8. That is very helpful. Thanks a lot. Any ideas on whether running on a PC or Mac would be faster? What type of processor? How much RAM? or what type of HD setup to use?
  9. Our office is currently running FM Sever 7, and has about 8 people running FMPro 8.5 or 8.5 advanced clients. We are having performance issues when certain scripts are run, as well in day to day use. Will upgrading to FM Server 8 have any significant performance boosts? A side issue, which maybe should be asked in a different section of the forums is what kind of machine is recommended for running the server? We have about 30 different databases, some small, some big, that all interact with each other. The application is in constant use throughout the day, and it manages our entire calendar system, client requests, and many other things. 10. In one of the reports I made, I am trying to print out a field that was imported from an email. Unfortunately, the field has little boxes in it at the beginning of each carriage return. The boxes are those kind that mean unrecognizable character, and when I print, each line prints on top of each other, as if there was a carriage return, but no linefeed. If I manually go in and delete the boxes, I can print fine. Is there any function that will allow me to remove all of these boxes from my field? Field contents look like this: Dear John, "box"This message was sent to you "box"regarding.... "box" etc. and the last 3 lines will all be overlapping. Hope this is clear. Thanks for the help.
  11. Thanks for responding. Yes, the checkbox for "Indicate web compatibility" is checked. I also have tried putting in an [Action_Statement] tag between the [inline][/inline], an I get nothing returned. Any other ideas? Thanks.
  12. I just started using Lasso with Filemaker, and I am having problems with the FMScript. I have a database, and layout that I have used successfully on the web, but when I try to run an FMScript, I get no results. My script works from Filemaker, and as a test, all I am having it do is change a global field. I have my extended permissions set up to allow Lasso Full Access, but I guess I must be missing something. Anyone have any ideas for why my script isn't running? Thanks, Danny
