  1. Looking for a seasoned FileMaker Database Developer to help grow our Filemaker business solution. A good candidate will be able to communicate with users to gather requirements but also be self sufficient. We are located in Tustin, CA and looking for a full-time in-house employee. Please private message me. Thanks
  2. Hello all, I hope I am posting in the right forum, there are so many here. : I am looking for second opinions on my companies decision to use (or not) Filemaker. My company currently uses Filemaker 9 Advanced to handle some of our internal data, client information, and production tracking. My boss has asked me to develop a new Filemaker application that does all of that (better) and more...including some things that Filemaker doesn't natively do (well in my opinion / needs a plug-in). Like: Exchange Server Integration, Active Directory Integration, Event Driven Task Management, and Production Scheduling. I understand the benefits of using Filemaker to develop small business applications. I am pretty new to Filemaker (2 months) but I can put together some pretty advanced stuff already. The problem is that I have already run into many situations where I just wished Filemaker handled more traditional SQL statements. I am really urging my Boss to choose Java over Filemaker at this point, but he is reluctant because he is comfortable with Filemaker (and perhaps doesn't understand it's capabilities and limitations). I am a Java programmer and I am biased in this matter. I would really appreciate any second opinions on this matter. Should I take the time to master Filemaker? or should I go with Java/SQL and build a custom app? Thanks for your help. :
  3. Just wondering if anyone figured this out. The way we did it was we created temporary global search fields. We created a new find layout that was accessed in browse mode. The user fills in the search fields and either clicks continue or find. The script then goes into find mode, sets all the corresponding fields and then performs the find. Hope this helps.
  4. Nevermind I just figured it out. You have to set privileges to view the record before being able to set the privileges to edit. Thanks again.
  5. Actually, why is the edit one grayed out? We would really like the person to be able to see the record with status completed, but not be able to edit it. Any ideas? Thanks again.
  6. Thanks Royce that works.
  7. We want a record that is marked 'Completed' to be locked and not editable. Does anyone have a good way of doing this? Thanks in advance.
  8. thanks for the quick response! I'm not sure if I'm following you correctly here. For example, we import a PDF into our documents database. When we clicked on Open URL that first time it just opens the PDF doc in Adobe Acrobat. I was fiddling around with Send Event but it seems to want the filename which I don't have since the document isn't in a path, it's in the database. Thanks again.
  9. Hello, We use a button to import a file to a container. We then have a button that uses Open URL[table::container] to open the file. This works perfectly fine when you test it but if you close out of Filemaker Pro and reopen and try clicking the Open URL button you'll find that it doesn't work anymore. Tech support says it's not a supported method to open up a container even though it does work that first time.. So this brings me to my question, is there a way to open up a container in it's native application? Instead of bringing up that save dialog box? Thanks in advance.
