  1. Lee/Steve, Thanks for your replies. I didn't think it was a case of removing blank spaces, more a workround of getting the left and right hand borders to extend the whole length of the body irrespective of the number of records. I may be wrong however. As Steve suggests, that is how the layout is set up, with a header and footer border, with a seperate border for a sub summary and the body. The sub summary is also set to break before each occurrence, if this should make a difference to the border. If I can't get the border to close up, I could abandon it. I was just trying to replicate a form as close as I could to the original that I am required to complete on an annual basis.
  2. Is it possible to achieve an unbroken border (manual border and not field border) across the header, sub summary, body and footer irrespective of the number of records on display (see attached)? I can only achieve an unbroken border when there are four records on display. Each part has it's own border, that had to be slighlty longer than the part in order for the line to be unbroken. Thanks in advance.
  3. I don't think so. I'm assuming plugins are installed separately to the Filemaker application and aren't part of that install?
  4. I've just upgraded to Filemaker Pro 17 and Filemaker Go 17. Unfortunately I now get 'The Host's Capacity Was Exceeded' error message (attached) when trying to open a file on my iPad that is hosted on my MacBook. I'm the only user of this file, so it seems strange and I've never had the error with previous Filemaker versions. Has anyone any ideas please? Edited to add that the file opens with Filemaker Go 17 when it is open on the MacBook with Filemaker Pro 16, therefore could this be a bug in Filemaker Pro 17?

    Portal Aesthetics

Thanks for your reply. That would be a lot of work to build seperate layouts for the iPad UI. I have actually have it set peer to peer to see real time changes. I've had some success so far with a few fields, but struggling with the last few. I just didn't know if there was an easy way of doing this. But as bcooney pointed out, with different behaviour across both formats it doesn't appear that there is.

    Portal Aesthetics

I have the following portal on FM16 on my MacBook, which to all intents and purposes looks fine with regard to field size, alignment including borders etc. But when I look at the same portal in FMGO, you can see that things don't look quite so neat with regard to the click button and the first two fields. Everything looks ok in inspector with regard to field sizing and positioning etc. Just wondering if there's an easy way to square all this up so the appearance is consistent on both platforms. Is it trial and error, I have had some success with other fields in sending them to the back and front etc but I'm struggling with these last three.
  7. Quite recently I upgraded from FM11 to FM16 and converted a bunch of files. I since appear to have a portal that isn't always displaying the correct records. The first screenshot below, shows the layout based on the Route Packs table, with three portals based on different tables stacked down the left hand side. The portal that is displaying strange behaviour is the bottom most portal, although on this record (Armley Jn - Dockfield Jn) it is displaying the correct records. The uppermost portal is showing two records which are the route pack sections that make up the route pack (Armley Jn - Dockfield Jn), the middle portal shows the Train Drivers that have this route pack section records in a competence table, and the bottom portal shows the route pack sections from the competence table including the days to expiry (for competence) together with a Days To Expiry COUNT summary field sorted by EmployeeID in the competence table. In this example, all records are showing correctly, two route pack sections multiplied by six Train Drivers equals 12 records in the competence table. In this record below, there should be 22 records in the lowermost competence table but there's blanks. In the next example there is the required number of records in the competence table portal, but there is four records for David Moorhouse. Two of those records should show for Ian Murray. There doesn't appear to be any rhyme or reason to any of the above examples. I have tried the following to no avail. - Created a new layout and copied and pasted the portal in case the layout was corrupt. - Created a new layout and recreated the portal from scratch in case the portal was corrupt. - Created a new EmployeeID field in the competence table and used this in the sort for the Days To Expiry COUNT summary field which is what the portal is sorted on. I'd be grateful for any suggestions I could try, there doesn't appear to be a pattern to the erratic behaviour and strangely sometimes the portal displays correctly.

    Server Busy Error

Thanks Fitch, that's good to know. I'm too far on with change since the 64 bit version of the software was installed.

    Server Busy Error

If I could get the 32 bit version of the software installed, would that be ok with the files that have been worked on by the 64 bit version?
  10. Is there an equivalent script step for Update Link for *fmp12 files?
  11. The table is below. Mainly text and calculation fields. When creating the record again (CTRL+N) I did copy the text from the route pack field into the new record, perhaps I should type it in manually in case the text is corrupt somehow.
  12. I’m having a really strange issue with a goto related record script step after converting a file from *fp7 to *fmp12. There was no issue with this in FileMaker 11. The script step is linked to a button, to go to a related record (same record) based on the same table to a different layout that contains portals based on different tables. For some reason running the script when a particular record is selected crashes FileMaker 16, and I have to force close the program. I did think the layout may be corrupt in some way, so duplicated it, deleted the original an renamed the duplicate. I still have the issue. Strangely, it only appears to happen with one particular record, the script step works fine with all other records I have tried which adds to the mystery. I have tried deleting the offending record, recreating it (assigned a different uniqueID), yet still the problem. Even if I manually go to the offending layout, then start scrolling through records, as soon as I get to that record FileMaker crashes. I’ve tried recovering the file to no avail. Is there anything else I can try, I was hoping to not have to build the layout from scratch again.

    Open URL Mailto

I haven’t considered a plug-in, is there a cost involved and what would you recommend?

    Open URL Mailto

Still struggling unfortunately, thanks for your continued help. I copied the text from my Open URL script, everything is ok with the resultant email below except there’s no active hyperlink to my file. "mailto:=John Fower;Paul Bowater;Gerarda Hadfield;Josh Parker;Steve Bramley;Neal Fussey;Graham Crosby" & "&subject=Lookahead Report" & "&body=Dear All,%0D%0DPlease find below linked lookahead report.%0D%0DRegards, Adrian.%0D%0D&" & "&file://G:/Large Files With Links/OTM Planning/Lookahead Report.pdf"

Apologies, the file would be on a network drive.

What would the syntax for the linked file look like? I can't find an example anywhere.

    Server Busy Error

Thanks Fitch, I'm following this up with our ICT department.

    Server Busy Error

I've spoken to the ICT guy that installed X64 Filemaker Pro 16 and asked him if it came with the X86 installer, he said it didn't. When you purchase the software, do we know if we should get both installers? Also, do you think that the X86 version would be supplied if we explained our situation? I'm not involved in the procurement process, but suspect that the software came from a third party supplier and not direct from Filemaker. I will have to look into the Perform Script on Server script step.

    Open URL Mailto

It does, but I was hoping I could get a double line break like the below: "Dear All, The attached route(s) have been added to the route competence database. TOP 006 paperwork received. Regards, Adrian."

    Open URL Mailto

Is there any way to achieve a double line break using the open url mailto script step? I have achieved a single line break using the following: "&body=Dear All,%0D%0AThe attached route(s) have been added to the route competence database. TOP 006 paperwork received.%0D%0ARegards, Adrian." Also, is there any way to add mail attachments?

    Server Busy Error

It turns out there's a known compatibility error between 32 and 64 bit versions of FileMaker Pro 16 and MS Outlook 2016 with regard to the send mail script. Both software require the same bit version. Below FileMaker describe the workarounds: WORKAROUNDS: Use 32-bit Outlook Use SMTP settings to send mail instead of the E-mail client Use the Open URL script step with the following syntax: "mailto:someone@example.com?subject=This%20is%20the%20subject&cc=someone_else@example.com&body=This%20is%20the%20body" Firstly I'm awaiting a response from our ICT department regarding a 64 bit version of MS Outlook. With regard to SMTP, how easy is this to configure with a corporate MS Exchange email account? Lastly, with regard to the open URL script step, does this have to be kept simple as in the above example? Can you send to multiple people and also insert calculations into the email body?
  22. Managed to sort this in the end by checking external sources in each file and correcting the filepath if required. I somehow imagined that the filepaths would be corrected automatically as part of the conversion process.
  23. Not every file in the folder is related to the other. Should there only be entries for each related file rather than every file within the folder? If so, things look ok so I'm not sure why I'm being asked for filepaths constantly.
  24. Yes, one for each related file. Is that how it should like or does it require a specific filepath?
  25. I've just converted a bunch of *fp7 files (Filemaker 11) to *fmp12 files (Filemaker 16). The original files were spread across three folders, but I set the conversion destination to one folder. The issue I have is that every time I open Filemaker I am asked to re-establish the paths (can't find file etc) for all related files. After doing this initially I wasn't expecting to have to do this again. Is there a way to sort this once and for all? Everything seems ok when I look at the external sources. Already made one big mistake by deleting external sources for one file, then adding them again only to find the relationships were broken for good. Re-established them by referring back to the relationship diagram of the *fp7 file.
