August 15, 20169 yr This is getting frustrating: About ten percent of the time I open a file, all of the layouts are displaying in a font named [email protected] or, less commonly, [email protected]. If I close and reopen the file a number of times, the problem will sometimes self-correct and show the normal fonts (I only use Arial, Calibri, and Times New Roman), but sometimes I have to go through every layout and reset the fonts. This only happens to my FMP 15 files - no other programs have been affected. I have attached a screen shot for clarification. Any ideas? Thanks, Guy Weird font example.pdf
August 15, 20169 yr Google resetting the font cache. Once the font cache is cleared, you should see that happen much less often. Most of the machines I had to do this with never had the problem again.
August 15, 20169 yr Author Thanks, Josh - I sure appreciate the quick response! I'll have to get my IT gurus to get that done - they have our computers locked down pretty tight, but I'm glad to hear that it's not terminal!
August 16, 20169 yr Author Hmmm... Could be. I already reset the font cache and the problem went away - if it comes up again, I'll try the restart trick and see what happens. Thanks for the added insight.
August 16, 20169 yr 14 hours ago, Fitch said: I thought the culprit was Adobe temp files. Usually restarting the PC fixes it. It does sometimes. But not always, and not always permanently. At a previous employer we ran into the problem a few times, until I reset the font cache. Edit: ( Tom was correct also. The Adobe cache was also part of the problem. ) This is FMI's official response on it. http://help.filemaker.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/15419/~/some-fonts-are-replaced-with-an-unreadable-.tmp-font Some fonts are replaced with an unreadable .tmp font Answer ID: 15419 Products FileMaker Pro 15.x 14.x FileMaker Pro Advanced 15.x 14.x ISSUE:FileMaker, Inc. is aware of an issue that replaces some fonts with an unreadable .TMP font comprised of symbols. WORKAROUNDS: Update to the latest version of Adobe Reader. Delete the Windows font cache at C:\Windows\System32\FNTCACHE.DAT and restart the machine. Delete the Adobe cache inside C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp\acrord32_sbx\ Use a zoom level other than 100%. Created: Nov 17, 2015 11:41 AM PST Last Updated: Jun 09, 2016 07:41 AM PDT
