I currently have a few fields that automatically enter the date, time and user when a file is modified. The problem is that when a file is not modified and simply viewed it doesn't show up on the list. Is there a way to auto enter this information when a record is viewed only?

You could use an OnRecordLoad script trigger

Your question is not quite clear. You want each view of a record to actually modify the record? What if two users wish to view the same record at the same time?
