Outside Party Trying To Connect To Our Server

Featured Replies

I hope someone can help me! We have a consultant that is trying to connect to our server using our TCP/IP address. However, when he types in the address from his computer, he can't connect to us. I'm sure the TCP/IP address I gave him is correct. We are running FileMaker Server 5.5 on a G4 which is running Mac OS X Server (if that helps). Is there something I need to change in our configuration to make it so he can connect to us? Thanks in advance.

Kristine

I would think there are many factors. Are you behind a firewall? Are remote users able to access other things on your server besides FileMaker? Is FileMaker Networking Sharing set to Multi-user?

There are a BUNCH of FM Web serving pros in this forum that could probably help you more.

e-mail / private message me the IP address and I will see if I can see it.

Possible problems:

Something wrong on his end.

Wrong IP address given

Internal IP address given

Firewall not allowing access

Server not correctly configured for TCP/IP

If the server IP starts with 192.168. or 10.10, it is behild a NAT box (basiclly a firewall), if it is, talk to your sysadmin, and if it isn't, still talk to him/her because you can have a real IP and still be behind a firewall.
