Mark Appleby Posted August 2, 2002 Posted August 2, 2002 Has anyone any experience with touch screens? I am about to invest in a unit for a retail application, but am unsure which units to look at. At the moment I am looking at ELO touch screens. Does anyone have any experience with them? Does anyone know of any pitfalls with using touch screens? All help and information is gratefully recieved.
IdealData Posted August 2, 2002 Posted August 2, 2002 We put one into an iMac last year - behaves just like a mouse. Make your buttons BIG as the resolution capabilites are related the finger size !
Mark Appleby Posted August 2, 2002 Author Posted August 2, 2002 Mark, Can I still keep the mouse also?
LiveOak Posted August 2, 2002 Posted August 2, 2002 I've never had the opportunity to design one into an application, but ELO has impressed me with: 1) It's accoustic touch screen approach for the iMac which doesn't add anything in front of the screen (size and durability). Doesn't void the Apple warranty. Interfaces internall with the USB ports. This seems like a very clean design approach (I'm an electrical engineer). 2) The units I've played with at trade shows seemed easy to use and stable. 3) The ELO folks have seemed very helpful and nice in every interaction I've had with them. My 2 cents worth. -bd
Mark Appleby Posted August 3, 2002 Author Posted August 3, 2002 Thanks Brent, I will call them Next week and see what I can do. Can anyone tell me whether I can still attatch a mouse when using one of these? Mark
LiveOak Posted August 3, 2002 Posted August 3, 2002 With the USB internal connection, I'm sure you can. Just like attaching two USB mice at the same time. -bd
