August 6, 200223 yr Yesterday all FM files where shut down for routine weekly maintenance like Recovery and backup. Apart of that FM Server is doing automatic backup several times a day. After I started the FM Server Service on W2000 Server, FM server 5 didn’t open all files -- from the same directory. Directory is 1 level down from FM server directory. Does anybody experience the same problem? We tried starting files manually from remote FM server management and server didn’t open them again. We open those Recovered files in FileMaker client without any problems and then we tried to open them again through remote management and it worked. My resume is from this is, that after Recover command the files must be opened first in FM client and then in FM Server. Weird!
August 6, 200223 yr It has always been my experience that after a Recovery you have to open them in Filemaker before opening them in Server. I presume that some internal flag will not allow the file to open unless it has been opened in a copy of Filemaker.
August 6, 200223 yr Recovery is "routine maintainance"? I thought recovery was a last ditch effort and shouldn't be run otherwise? Seems like I've heard it can cause loss of sort orders in scripts, saved Finds, etc...
August 7, 200223 yr Author IMHO -- missing sort order of scripts was in version 2 It is the wish of IT manager. BTW -- there is nothing wrong with the files. He is just feeling more secure that way. In a way he is right, you cannot otherwise discover problems with FileMaker files. There is not other analysis routine in FM. If Recover reports some kind of missing or skipping records, that can be interpreted as an early warning. Then the other routines will kick in. The company has 5 backup sets for every day in a week.
