Remote administration

I have recently installed FM 5.5 Unlimited on a host computer, and activated Web Companion. The server is working fine---I can see and search databases using a web browser.

However, I can find no documentation on how to use Remote Administration (i.e. changing setting on FM and launching databases remotely using a browser on another machine). I have looked at filemaker.com support, in the manual, and on the CDs. Can someone point me in the right direction for docs?

Do not do Remote Admin. -- it will compromise security, which is anyway very weak.

Leave databases open all the time for web access.

Do the remote administration from another machine via console or directly FM to FM connection.

Or you can trigger housekeeping scripts directly from web.

The tool I have used to remotely admin is Timbuku. I don't know of another way to remotely adminstrate a server.

Yeah,

Timbuktu, PCanywhere, VNC, Dave, Windows Terminal Service -- anything what works as console is the best.

The FM Pro Unlimited 5.5 box shows a picture of a browser window accessing a settings window, with the caption: "Remotely administer the Filemaker Web Server Connector from anywhere with Internet access and your password."

But I can find not explanation of this function nor what IP address and commands would be used. I am happy to learn on my own, but where is the documentation?

Thanks.

That applies to WS Connector only and browser is the only interface Connector has.

HTH.
