Rangoon Posted August 12, 2002 Posted August 12, 2002 I have FM 5.5 and run on both Mac and PC through FM Server. My problem is when I enter a field on the PC the curser color is the standard Black. But when I enter a field on the Mac the curser color is Yellow and is very difficult to see. Is there a way to change the yellow to black on the Mac?
marcd Posted August 12, 2002 Posted August 12, 2002 It sounds like the problem you are having in the Mac environment is linked to the Mac's appearance settings. To change them go to the Appearance control panel and click the Appearance tab. From there you can change the highlight color. Hope this helps.
Rangoon Posted August 12, 2002 Author Posted August 12, 2002 I tried the appearance settings and they had not effect on the curser. Thanks
Bob White Posted August 12, 2002 Posted August 12, 2002 This is not an Appearance issue. It is relative to the fill color of your fields and has been this way for several versions of FMP. Since you are getting a yellow cursor, my guess is that your fill is a shade of blue or green. Generally, working across the color choice grid, the grays/reds/yellows will yield a black cursor, the blues/greens will have a yellow cursor and the purples/pinks will have a gray cursor. Sounds like you need to change your fill color.
Rangoon Posted August 13, 2002 Author Posted August 13, 2002 RE: Sounds like you need to change your fill color. I'm not sure I understand where you go to make the type of change your talking about. I'm sure you don't mean to change the color of an actual field from white to Blue as an example. So where in FileMaker do I go change a "fill color"? Thanks for your help...
IdealData Posted August 13, 2002 Posted August 13, 2002 That's the "paint bucket" in layout mode. Have a look at the FMP Help on "fill".
Keith M. Davie Posted August 13, 2002 Posted August 13, 2002 "It is relative to the fill color of your fields and has been this way for several versions of FMP." I have a Mac G3. I just checked this in FMPro 4.0 and 5.0. I opened a test db in each and made several fields different colors. In the browse mode my cursor stayed black. Should I be dissapointed?
Rangoon Posted August 13, 2002 Author Posted August 13, 2002 I think the whole thing is a FileMaker programmmmer's joke. Who ever thought the curser color would change by platform. I had all fields in my solution Lt. Gray and had to go back through all the fields in all the files and change the fields to white, just so the curser would show up in the fields on the Mac's in black. Oh fun oh joy...
Bob White Posted August 13, 2002 Posted August 13, 2002 Nope.. not a joke. Think about it or check it out for yourself. As an example, a black cursor is not easily seen on medium to dark blue or green backgrounds. The silly programming staff was just making sure our users could deal with the results of our designs!
Keith M. Davie Posted August 14, 2002 Posted August 14, 2002 Does anyone know of any difficulties with colored fields and text because a client is color-blind?
Rangoon Posted August 14, 2002 Author Posted August 14, 2002 Ya, you're right. I'm sure at least half of my staff is blind anyway and hear I'm worried about the color of the curser! Could I be any more color chalenged?
mborgens Posted August 14, 2002 Posted August 14, 2002 FYI - Here is a nice site that provides vision design considerations - , http://www.rnib.org.uk/digital/hints.htm
