August 13, 200223 yr Topic says it all! I stumbled across this a couple months ago when I was fixing up some old database, the find button kept on restoreing an old request; after a bit, i found there was 2 "find" scripts. @$^#@!
August 13, 200223 yr The reason I believe this happens (and it can happen in other instances as well) is that FM internally references scripts by a sequential number that it assigns when you create the script. Ever notice that even when you have hundreds of scripts with loads of references, that renaming a script takes no time? If FM had to search thru every script to rename a subscript, the operation would take minutes rather than seconds. I believe FM will also allow 2 Relationships to have the same name as well. It certainly points out the need to be very careful.
August 13, 200223 yr Author Yes, FM uses IDs for almost everything (it is database program after all). A simple check when creating or renaming a script would help this. My vote's for Bad Thing
August 13, 200223 yr Ah - but if you couldn't have duplicate script names, how would you be able to create multiple empty scriopts with the "-" name to use as menu dividers in the Scripts Menu?
August 13, 200223 yr Author hmm, I think its just when the name starts with "-", so the second would be "--" and so forth. In terms of organizing in ScriptMaker, I use Something like this: Startup Shutdown ------------Scripts that do stuff Erase All Records Over Bill Client ------------Report Scripts Show wasted time ------------Interface Scripts Popup City Checkbox X
August 13, 200223 yr Dunno 'bout that... If you start a visible script name with "---- etc" then that whole name will show up in the menu as an executable script, but if the name is just "-", then a nice dividing line will appear in the menu.
August 13, 200223 yr Instead of Show wasted time have you tried Insert Calculated Result (creative time, wasted time) Overbilled clients like creativity.
August 14, 200223 yr A warning would be fine for double names, but not allowing it would be taking power away from a power user. The developer is responsible for good design and not FMP. However, I
August 14, 200223 yr Author Lets march on FileMaker Inc headquaters and demand change for once! Or, start an open source project to eclipse FMI's development. Whos in (for either or both of the above)?
August 14, 200223 yr You guys are pissing in the wind. Those a..holes won't do anything that isn't whizzbang that they can promote. Notice that they only implement new features part way? Just so long as they can sell it.
