Relationship to another hosted database and authentication

Featured Replies

Hi, trying to see if this will work the way I need.

Database 1, restricted to only to User 1 and User 2 has no access. Hosted on Filemaker server

Database 2, User 2 allowed access and also hosted same Filemaker Server. But this database pulls data via relationships from Database 1.

User 2 can open Database 2 ok, but it still asks them to authenticate to Database 1 as well? Anyway it can not need to do this and still have the relationships intact?

Thanks

Hi Chris

To solve this you will add that user to Database 1, but you could restrict their access in 'Security' so that they can't view any layouts. So long as that user in Database 1 has access to the tables that you need them to see the pulled data from, then Database 2 will be able to access what is needed. You can even set it so that they cannot edit data in any tables if that is what you require.

More or less anything is possible, but as it can be complicated, you should definitely test that it does what you are expecting!
