Is VirtualSort (by J. Bante) still the best (fastest) way to dynamically sort portals on a hosted file?

I have been using the excellent VirtualSort by @jbante for years and it functions very well, but sorting on an unstored calc is, as we know, inherently slow on hosted solutions with many records.

I was wondering if someone has conjured up a new method for dynamic portal sorting that is significantly faster considering that 10 years have passed.

I also wonder how the 'Server sorting' in Server 19 and later affects sorting on unstored calcs, as I read somewhere that it apparently does not work.
