How to specify NOT to page-break between parts

Featured Replies

Hi to all,

Is there a way to group two layout part of a report so that the first part doesn't print unless there is space to start printing the second part ?

I explain B)

On my layout I have a sub summary when sorted by field1 part which contains the title of the paragraph contained in the following part (which is also a sub summary when sorted by field2). I want to prevent the page from breaking between those two specific parts so that I don't end-up having the title at the bottom of a page and the paragraph on the next page without a title. I know one can specify when to page-break using the part setup but there doesn't seem to be options to specify when not to break... I do not want to force a page break before the title as some paragraph are very short.

Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.

Sorry for insisting but, am I to understand that there is no way to do this ? I know I couldn't find one but this forum is so full of clever users I figured with that much brain power, nothing is impossible !

Thank you in advance

Not possible. As powerful as Filemaker is, it is NOT a page layout application.

Now it is possible that some clever person has some way of making a calc field or something that only will print if it will fit on the page.

I had this problem with one of my layout (Order Form) when i started with File Maker.

The layout could be of different size depending on the number of datas it contained.

I finally created different layouts, and perform a script that first calculated the number of items (or words) and then choosed the appropriate layout before printing.

May be this could help

More than a year later and still no elegant way to do this? Thanks Ugo, for your suggestions, but it seems like a long way around the problem.

Here's my issue, which is very similar to original one by Canolas: How can I not have a pagebreak WITHIN a record?

When I have three or four records on a report page, each record ending with a summary calculation, sometimes the summary is on the following page. Since I need to have a few records on a page, I can't use the "page breatk after part" solution.

I'm not asking FM to be InDesign. Doesn't this seem basic? What have I missed?

Thanks for your help.
