Access privileges and passwords in FMP 5.5 Server

I created a set of related files in FMP 5.5 and established access privileges and passwords for various level of access giving myself full administrtor privileges. When the files were moved to a server running FMP 5.5 server my administrator password is now treated as a guest and I cannot see the menu option for changing access privileges and passwords. Also, the "change layout order" is grey not allowing me to make chages. I called FMP tech support and was told that I must remove the files from the server to access adminsitrator privileges, make the changes, and replace the files on teh server. This seems rather crude for such an otherwise robust DB. Help.

You do not actually have access to the files themselves, so you are not allowed to make those kinds of changes to served files. This is mostly a deliberate design issue for security reasons.

You'll need to take those files off Server and open them locally, make the changes, then put them back on Server.

How clumsy recommendation. Much easier will be:

Disconnect users and stop FM service, or close the files on Server.

Take Backup of file(s) you want to change.

Do the change with FM connected to the file on server.

If everything is OK, you have the backup from previous version.

If something doesn't work, overwrite the file(s) with the backup and start again.

Thank you. That makes sense. So what about the issue of not having access to the menu command to change the layour order? With full access privileges I had assumed that I would be able to control that function on served files.
