Changing the Text on Native Buttons

Featured Replies

Talk about a real newbie question....

Once I have created a button and attached a script, how can I change the text of the button? Every time I click on the button itself in Layout Mode I get the Specify Button dialog box...I am obviously missing something...PLEASE HELP!

Hi:

Click on the Text Tool on the left and use it to select the text on the button.

Filemaker allows you to make any item a button. You can also create buttons by using the rectangle, oval, or rectangle with clipped corners in combination with embossed, engraved, etc. What's more, you can assign a script to text, etc.

I still have that problem once in a while. If you right-click, and ungroup (ooops, Macs may be different) it tells you it needs to unattach the script. Once it's unattached, the text is editable. I then reattach the script. That's probably a newbie answer, because I am; but it usually works! I swear it happens even if I haven't grouped it.

If you read Ken's post, he mentions a way to get edit access to the button text without going to all the trouble of unattaching and re-attaching the button specifications. It's handy to know - it'll save you a lot of time! smile.gif
