trevorg Posted September 26, 2002 Posted September 26, 2002 I have a client that I've previously built a complete business management system for that includes everything that they needed except for a project management tool. This client is requesting features that are nearly parallel to MS Projects features. I've told them this, and they still would like it re-built and integrated into the existing FileMaker system. After a little research, I've found that MS Project can be connected to various backend databases (of Microsoft flavor... SQL & Access). I even found that they provide "scripts" to create all the necessary tables & fields that Project uses. (even found a Visio ERD of this!). Now, I know this is a long shot, but my curiosity was peaked when it mentioned it could also be connected to a database via ODBC, does anyone think it might be possible to connect it to FileMaker? My long shot thinking is this.... use the already created MS Project Client, but store all the data in FMP. Then any "integration" or reporting or scheduling or resource management that they desire could be tapped and shared between FMP & MS Project.
LiveOak Posted September 26, 2002 Posted September 26, 2002 Might be possible, I don't know of anyone who has done it. Some of the big solutions guys, like New Millennium Software, might know of someone who's tried. You might also contact Bob Cusick at ClickWare and see if he knows anyone doing something similar. He specializes in ODBC/SQL stuff these days. It's worth a shot to do some trials. To redevelop total MS Project functionality in FM is probably about a $100,000+ development. -bd
