Please Clarify On Internet Hosting of Files

Is filemaker web hosting just limited to allowing remote users to view data through their browser? Isn't there a way to host the file live so that remote users could actually use the file just like they would on a LAN and not just read only?

When publishing FM databases on the web (Instant or Custom) you have full control for searching, editing, creating and deleting data and records.

If you are using a hosting service, you need to find-out from them if any restrictions to functionality exist.

All the best.

It depends entirely on Host. I will hesitate to put you in charge without testing you abilities not to damage something yours or mine on shared server.

I'm hosting a database over the web with browsers, and users can

enter data. FM 5.5 improved this greatly. Lists can be pop-up menus for entry,

and relational fields work fine.

If their password gives them more than read access, a web browser

user should be able to see two displays, Form and Table layout, and

enter information by clicking on fields in the form layout, which takes

them to the entry form, then they click submit when done adding info. . . .

hope this helps
