mlindal Posted October 1, 2002 Posted October 1, 2002 We are attempting to get a working online bookstore. We just tried to upgrade to FM server 5.5 on a Win2000 machine. The web companion is on an imac. After upgrading to 5.5 server, the web companion shut down about every hour. So we downgraded to server 5.0. The web companion shuts down once a day at random times. What is happening? Note: The win2000 server is a 200MHz machine that also runs IIS to serve up a folder of PDFs accessed by the bookstore.
Kurt Knippel Posted October 1, 2002 Posted October 1, 2002 Filemaker Server should be on its own machine and never used as another server. Nor should there be any Filesharing turned on. Put Filemaker Server and IIS on seperate machines.
Anatoli Posted October 1, 2002 Posted October 1, 2002 While I agree with that call for separate machines, it is not causing that problem. That is the problem which I've reported in http://www.fmforums.com/threads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB27&Number=45983&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=31&fpart=1 BTW, that machine was disconnected and server is running separately as the only service on server. We still don't know anything, which will give us clue! It looks like bug. IMHO, although FM recommends single machine for FM server, these days FM server is using only 10% of CPU cycles. It rarely goes above 50%, just in peaks. If it works, we can run more applications on single CPU.
Newbies tdorff Posted October 16, 2002 Newbies Posted October 16, 2002 We had the same problem and we discovered 2 things: 1. It seemed to happen when we made an invalid http request (bad url) to the web companion machine. 2. It became much less frequent when we upgraded to 5.5v2 of web companion. I just saw that there's a version 5.5v4, which I also plan to install now. TED
