ibiubu Posted November 11, 2002 Posted November 11, 2002 Came across a sample file where the the menu name "Scripts" had been changed to something custom. Was this little trick done thru FileMaker Developer? Or this there a way to do it with FileMaker Pro? LR
kenneth2k1 Posted November 11, 2002 Posted November 11, 2002 Yeah, the scripts menu name can be changed using the Developer Tool provided with FM developer. I don't know if there is any other way to do this. Ken
CG Software LLC Posted November 12, 2002 Posted November 12, 2002 You can also use the menuChoice plugin to change or customize all of the menus. I've been playing with the latest version and find it amazing. Just my 2 cents. Thomas
CobaltSky Posted November 13, 2002 Posted November 13, 2002 As far as I'm aware, there isn't a plug-in on the market called 'menuChoice', so I'm guessing you're referring to the MenuControl plug-in from Dacons International? I agree that it is a great treat. The previous version was a toe in the water, but the new x-plat offering is a whole other world of possibilities. Very powerful, though there is not escaping that it takes a fair bit of work to properly harness the possibilities. It also requires a level of planning and thinking through the interface that goes beyond what is ordinarily required for an FM-based application. Since it obliterates all menus and keyboard commands and allows you to rebuild them on a screen-by-screen or file-by-file basis, it's necessary to think carefully about every aspect of the usability of your solution. You need to think in terms of the usual 'safety net' of FMs familiar environment suddenly no longer being available - a bit like planning a kiosk solution... But once you do that, the payoff is significant!
CG Software LLC Posted November 17, 2002 Posted November 17, 2002 Ah, yes, MenuControl is what I was writing about. Thanks for catching that. It does take some serious planning but can make for a powerful solution. Thomas
