Container/OLE/Word/XP Problem

Featured Replies

We have a database with a Container field in which we would like to hold Word documents. The system specifications are:

Window XP Pro

FM 5.0

Office 2000

The problem is that when the Container field is double-clicked, while containing a Word document, an error is returned:

"Filemaker Pro cannot complete the operation because of an

OLE (0x80004002) error" After clicking on the OK button the message "Sorry

there is not enough memory to complete this operation."

Other documents, such as pdfs, work fine.

Any help appreciated. Thank you.

Garry

Hunch:

Container field content is executed from the memory space provided by Filemaker. Microsoft word needs lot of memory with even extra temporary memory/disk space which probably wouldn't be provided by Filemaker.

PDF would work because acrobat wouldn't need to write anything to show pdf.

I don't know how to fix it other than possible flushing it on a temp space and then displaying???

Thanks Simon,

However, after consulting with my client I've found it actually crashes when he drops the document onto the Container field in the Layout.

I haven't checked to see if he still has the document open in Word when he attemptes the drag-and-drop.

All the best.

Garry
