Is there a way to create a calculation field which has a value (1 or X or anything I can use as a flag) only if it is part of the current found set? This way I can trigger a find from another database and have a relationship portal to show the results. I know that I could do a loop to auto populate the fields each time I do a find, but a calculation would be much cleaner.

What you want to do is to create place your unique field on a layout (only this field) then create a script to go to this layout and perform the script (copy all records) Then go to a layout with all your fields and paste into a global field (gCurrent). Make sure this field is a global text.

The result will be the following:

Here's the problem...

I want to display the found set in a portal in another database. I can't relate the other database to this one via the gCurrent field because it is a global field.

No no no, the other way around!

The global field is the master key in the database where the portal lives. The remote key for the relationship is the unique field used for the copy script.

Okay, I've got it. Copy the ID fields from the found set, return to my portal database and paste them into the related ID field there, causing all items to show up in the portal. One question though...why would I need the field to be global?

"One question though...why would I need the field to be global?"

So that if you change records in the related file you'll still see the found set in the portal.

Remember, the original brief was "...trigger a find from another database and have a relationship portal to show the results..." There may not be any implicit relationship between the found set of records and the record you're on in the other file.
