gowrann Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 I have a contacts db and i want to add in a history of notes as people log there details. I would like a notes icon which when pressed opens a new linear layout containg a short description and when clicked can expand into the full notes record. Is it best to create in the contacts.db or create another db.
kenneth2k1 Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 Personally, I like to make notes a separate file related to the contacts and viewed through a portal. Ken
Ted S Posted December 13, 2002 Posted December 13, 2002 I agree with Ken. I'm working for a company that started our contacts database about 10 years ago and now has over 16.000 contacts. I don't think FileMaker was relational back then so we just have a big scrolling field on each contact record which contains the contact notes (history). We have entered so many notes for some of the contacts that we have had to create a second and third contact records for those people. Time, date, and user stamping each note entry would be easier with a related file and it would also be feasible to attach the same note to other contact records when that becomes necessary. -Ted
