Faxing or emailing FM Layout

Featured Replies

Are there any way to fax or email a FileMaker layout other then FaxTool?

I don't know what FaxTool is... but normally faxing is just like a print as far as the program is concerned. You should be able to use any fax software to fax from FileMaker.

you want to email a layout and have it appear as it does in the layout? I do this for invoices by printing to PDF, then sending the PDF as an attachment.

If you're just looking to email text from your record, you can use the e-mail script step. If you want to send multiple fields, you can use a calculation field to combine and format them together.

Check out

http://www.datadesigns.com The makers of faxtool. They are releasing soon a plugin or solution called I-mailer which does not use pdf's to email your layouts. It is not out yet but worth looking into

You could use the current version of the AfFiler plug-in to generate a pdf of the layout and then email that as an attachment (either using an email plug-in or the native Send Mail script command).

Sorry, I didn't mention this before, but I want faxing or emailing to be performed automatically using Events or Activator plug-ins (that's what we have built computers for, isn't it?) . All conventional methods require human involment. Does anyone have to say something?

Hello vasilek,

Provided the process(es) you adopt are able to be scripted, there should be no difficulty making them fully automatic using one of the plug-ins you mention, since both are essentially designed to automate the triggering of scripts.

A solution such as the one I previously suggested, involving the use of the AfFiler plug-in (which operates via scripted calls to external functions) and the Send Mail script step (which can reside within the same script as the external function calls) would be well suited to being automated via Activator or Events.

Where can I find AfFilter?

Yes, it's from Afeina Software, and the direct URL to the relevant demo download page is:

http://www.afeina.com/affiler.php

Version 2 is the one which aloows generation of pdf files without the use of any external software or drivers.

that easy, you have events plug in run a script every 5 or 10 min that check for unsent faxes. once it finds them it runs the fax scripts from the databases you choose sending the layouts you choose. easy. i can help.

I have been using Page Sender from www.smilesoftware.com and it is GREAT. I can send an fax directly from FMPro to a number designated within the database using a few easy AppleScript steps. His program includes sample FMPro database file to get you started and I am loving it. Great support, he helped with with an applescript step to change the current printer in Print Center. I heartily recommend it. (appears to do email in the same fashion)
