FM Server 5.5 Crashing on G4 OS 9.2.2

Featured Replies

We have a G4 with 9.2.2 running fm server 5.5, hosting 40 files.

I have an automated applescript that reboots the machine daily.

But, I'm still having occational crashes. This time it was when I clicked the "expand" triangle next to a filename in the admin window. The mac simply froze up and I had to manualy reboot.

This happens occationally. I thought forcing a daily restart would take care of the problem ... but no dice.

My only possible clue (though I have no idea of it's really connected to the problem at all), is that after an auto-reboot, the screen res. is stuck at 640x480, but it's fine (1024x768) after a manual reboot. Someone suggested it might be that the applescript command "restart" doesn't re-read the PRAM when it comes back up.

Does anyone know if that could have anything to do with it and -- if so -- how I can get it to re-read the PRAM on a soft restart?

If it's not connected, anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Jeff

Start by stripping down the Extension to the minimum needed for OS 9.2.2 Many extensions are simply not needed for a server machine. Also make sure that Filemaker Server is the only application running on that server, especially apps that mess around with the disk or files. Anti-virus and file protections utilities can muck it up. Make sure that file sharing is disabled totally. It is not needed on a database server.

I have specifically disabled the following list of extensions:
